We stayed at Mario Family Villa for our first night in Sri Lanka and what a warm welcome we got! Besides the great atmosphere, the accommodation has all you need. The house is very clean, the shower is warm and the airconditioning works perfectly. The kindness of the family is heart warming, they are very helpfull and the breakfast (coffee/tea, fresh fruit, 3 different pancakes) was delicious. If we could, we would defenitely stay here again! The room was very spacious, with complimentary water and fruit provided, which was a nice touch. There’s also a restaurant on-site that we really enjoyed. We only stayed for one night because of its proximity to the airport, and unfortunately the monsoon season had already started, so we couldn’t make use of the pool or do much else. The host was excellent – communication was smooth, and he kindly arranged both pick-up and drop-off (very early in the morning) at the airport for a fair price. Highly recommended!

Riverrina is a very quiet and peaceful place to relax. The swimming pool is large, clean and refreshing. There is lots of wildlife on the grounds--such a delight to wake up to the many birds singing. (Listen for the kookaburra!) Ask to look at the Dutch canal and the tree with bees! The staff is exceptional--they always appeared as soon as I came downstairs to see if I need anything. I loved the Sri Lankan breakfast that changes a bit everyday. There are many choices on the buffet. Everything is spotless and well-cared for. Although it is a bit far from the airport, I vote it a perfect place to recuperate from a long flight before experiencing this wonderful country.
