The setting was very nice, with close to all the attractions of the Mullingar area but in the countryside. The host's husband, who was filling in while she attended to family matters, was very friendly and even gave us a tour of his hurling stick manufacturing and shop. It's a gated yard, so it felt very secure, and the breakfast area had everything you needed for a little snack or a good start to the day!

Gerard, the owner, is a very kind and likable gentleman, easy to talk to. In fact I appreciated the fact that he was present for example to greet me at arrival - compared to other places that leave you the key in a locker… The house has a special charm. The building as well as the furniture is not modern but seemingly all from the same era and l loved it. Look at the photos and you know what I’m talking about. Also, I especially loved the long driveway up to the house with trees and the lawn left and right and not to forget the rabbits that seem to quite like it there. Hope lovely is that?! My bed was comfortable - for me that’s always the most important… Would I stay there again? Definitely!

I loved the warm welcome we received upon arrival greeted with tea and lovely homemade cake. Host was wonderful sharing the history of this old building and their hopes to make the stay for their guests the best possible. They have a wonderful canine greeter Prim, a very friendly dog who loved to receive new guests. The room "Bishops room" was spacious and beautiful with a beautiful view, we were able to peak in to other rooms and each room is decorated according Riding the the era of the home with beautiful antiques. The breakfast was exceptional, the presentation perfect using their own free range eggs and they raise their own happy pigs that you can see from the site so bacon and ham was delicious. Surrounding is lush and absolutely gorgeous, definitely go on a walk (host has a map with information)

The Railway House B & B could also stand for bed and bike. They are ideally located for those who wish to explore the area's greenways: the Rail Trail and the Royal Canal. The staff were extremely helpful, breakfast provided a great start to our daily biking adventures, and they had a secure place to store our bicycles overnight. This meant we could rent them for our entire stay and didn't need to return them to the rental place each day. The hosts were friendly, welcoming, and offered us a great accommodation experience.
