The Backwaters lodge has everything that a naturelover is looking for. We really had the best time here in the middle of nowhere close to the Wilpattu National Park. The staff is really helpfull and very friendly, the rooms are right into nature but still have the luxury of having warm water and AC, great and an extended breakfast and dinner, I can go on and on. If you want to go on a safari at Wilpattu they can arrange a private jeep for you (which is a must do ofcourse). Further to fill in your time you can just hang out at the beautifull chillspots on the ponds or in the jungle or you could go kayaking with the kayaks available at the lodge. We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the lodge a little more.

Still under construction but did not affect our stay. Great location as it is only 10 mins to the national park entrance. But it is a fair way from anything else. We had the plunge pool room and it was perfect. Clean, comfy beds and spacious! Staff were helpful.

Staff were amazing and host was easy to contact and flexible. Location was well out of the way with an amazing lake within a few minutes walk with trials to walk also bit perfect for Wilpattu national park. Food was really nice and the room had everything you could need.

Amazing location. Everything was perfect and very clean! You cannot be closer to Wilpattu National Park, the park gates are literally in front of the homestay. Lovely family that can organize safari trips for you and meals too! I had an amazing full-day safari and we saw everything! Even the leopards! I also booked with a naturalist and it was definitely worth it. So much fun to learn about all the animals. Thank you so much!

I had a wonderful stay with Riswan and his family. They truly care about offering the best possible experience to their guests and sharing the beauty of their region. They even managed to organize a last-minute safari for me at a very reasonable price, especially considering how well the day went (great driver, breakfast + lunch included) – $50 for a half day, $95 for a full day. As for the wildlife, I was lucky not only in the park but also around the village where the guesthouse is located. It’s not uncommon to see one or even several elephants passing by – though of course, that’s up to Mother Nature! Overall, a fantastic experience. A big thank you to Riswan and his brother for their kindness and for taking the time to help me plan my route. Good to know: there’s a local bus that runs from the village to Puttalam for 150 LKR, 1h, starting around 7 AM, with connections to many other destinations from there.

There are many lodges around and near Willpatu National Park. This one is very close to the park entrance and is one of the best options to stay if you want to go on a safari. The room has the basics but let's not forget that you are essentially in the jungle. The room and bathroom were very clean. Our stay there was made very easy by Gida, the owner of the lodge. She is an amazing cook but also very good company and always willing to help as we faced some problems with the rented tuk-tuk. Thank you very much and sorry if we tired you a little
