Our stay at Babalao was absolutely perfect. This place is clean, comfortable, quiet and above all SUPER RELAXED. It's a small place where staff is genuinely kind and caring without being fake or trying to sell you something, we could tell they like working there. We loved that there were no strict policies. We could have breakfast whenever we wanted (we are not morning people so this is amazing!), go into the pool late at night and they even let us do a late checkout without any charge. They also informed us of local prices for taxi, fruit, etc so we had a better idea of what a fair price is. There's unlimited tea, coffee and water, and they even let you take towels out to the beach. The beach is super close, just around the corner. Beds are comfy, massage is fantastic and there are also board games and books around for entertainment. Also there is a super friendly dog there that is just as chill as the owner - don't worry, she does not jump on you. There is also a sweet cat that loves cuddles but will leave you alone if you don't want to interact. Both of these animals are clearly pets, they don't live on the streets. For us this was a nice bonus as we love animals, but even if you are nervous, don't let this stop you from staying here. Babalao is very suitable for couples and solo travelers, but can also accommodate families - there even was a small birthday party for one of the guests. 😊

I stayed at this hostel during my trip to Zanzibar, and I honestly couldn’t believe the quality I got for the price. From the moment I arrived, the staff were super friendly and welcoming—they really go out of their way to make you feel at home. They helped me with everything from booking tours to recommending local spots to eat, and they always had a smile on their faces. The room I stayed in was spotlessly clean, air-conditioned, and very cozy. After a long day exploring or chilling by the sea, coming back to such a comfortable and cool room was a treat. You can tell the place is well-maintained and that they really care about keeping it nice for guests. The location is just perfect—it’s literally just a few steps from the beach and would walk out every morning for a quick dip or to watch the sunrise. The whole vibe of the place is super chill and relaxed, with hammocks and little corners to read or just hang out. It was the perfect balance of social and peaceful. What surprised me most is how cheap it was compared to the value you get. Honestly, I’ve paid way more in other places and didn’t get half the quality. If you’re traveling to Zanzibar and want a great stay without blowing your budget, this place is an absolute gem. PS. This place is really safe as well! U could leave ur stuff the whole day and come back finding them untouched! Would 100% stay here again!

That decision turned out to be one of the best we made during our entire vacation! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine care. The owner and staff went above and beyond to make sure every aspect of our stay was perfect. Their attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction made us feel completely at home and created a truly unforgettable experience. The property itself is stunning, with beautifully designed furniture made from local materials, adding an authentic and unique charm to every space. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a balcony that gave us a beautiful view of the ocean. Sitting there in the morning, watching the ocean, was the perfect way to start each day. It was simple, peaceful, and exactly what we were looking for on a vacation. The housekeeping team did an amazing job, keeping everything spotless and ensuring we had everything we needed every single day. The hotel also has direct beach access, where we enjoyed the soft sand and stunning ocean views. The addition of private sun loungers reserved exclusively for guests made it easy to relax in comfort and enjoy the beautiful Nungwi beach. The cuisine at this hotel is absolutely world-class! We tried many other places around Zanzibar, but the food here was by far the best. Whether it was breakfast or dinner, every dish was crafted to perfection with a perfect balance of local flavors and international flair. The meals, paired with quick and friendly service, quickly became one of the highlights of our days.

The entire property is really well laid out, with trees around the pool that give it a really warm and intimate feeling but also provide much-needed shade if you burn easily like I do. The food area and swing seats are inviting and relaxing, so it's a real oasis. The rooms are light and comfortable with good air conditioning. They are also remarkably sound proof, with some of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in in Tanzania. The owners and staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, and I love the resident kittens they have taken in. The food was good and breakfast was filling and tasty. It's well located in that the beach and shops are in very easy walking distance, but it isn't impacted by the hustle and bustle or the noise that is common in other venues. A really delightful find, we will certainly be back!

Mimi na wewe makes you feel welcomed every moment of your stay! The staff has been extremely kind and ready to help us with anything we needed (from transport to laundry and organizing activities). The breakfast was different every day and so abundant that was enough for lunch too! In just 10/15 minutes we could reach Kendwa Beach by walking, and also ATMs and shops were very close. The room was always perfectly cleaned and the free access to the pool from morning to evening is a huge plus!

Amazing location right by the beach - 10/10. Staff were really helpful and set up a tour for us when we arrived late the previous evening so that was really useful! Gave good restaurant recommendations too. They washed our clothes for us too for a very reasonable price. Good breakfast. Very clean room.
