Matrei and the surrounding countryside mirror the pictures that are seen of Austria: it is beautiful. The town has two grocery stores and a very helpful tourist information center. It also has an interesting museum and a reasonable choice of restaurants.. We ate our evening meal in the hotel across the street ( where the breakfast included is eaten) and the food was good. Nice small town. They have supermarkets and a bus stop. For us it was our starting and end point of the Venediger Höhenweg. You need some planning to get to the right place by bus. Nice connection to the train station in Kitzbühel and Lienz. Also you can get by bus to the Matreier Tauern Haus and Ströden. Hitchhiking is also possible.Guest review byLieke - 10.0

We enjoyed the room - the kitchen was very well equipped. the room facilities were very good, except for the dryer which did not dry the clothes. The windows near the children rooms had no blinds - when I asked what can be done, the hotel staff installed temporary covers for the windows so we wouldn't wake up so early. This was done on the same day. Great and quick response, thanks! The staff in general are very helpful with any question, also about sight seeing, bus schedules etc.Guest review byAnatIsrael

For example at breakfast we were looking for normal joghurt (they had mixed fruit ones). The following mornings they brought us directly at the table a bowl of normal joghurt.
