Bright is picturesque and one of my favourite places to...
Bright is picturesque and one of my favourite places to visit any time of the year. You can hire bikes (or bring your own) and ride the rail trail which mostly follows the river meandering alongside bush and farmlands. Mount Buffalo is close by for fantastic views, great bushwalks (outside of winter) and the beautiful old Chalet (currently closed but due to reopen in 2026). In winter you can also cross-country ski and toboggan at Mt Buffalo. The ski fields of Mt Hotham and Falls Creeks are just over an hour away. The canyon walk in the centre of Bright is beautiful and if you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of a platypus. There are a good range of restaurants, cafes & pubs and lots of gorgeous shops to browse - my favourites are Winding Road Design Studio and Bowerbird. If you have kids there is one of the best playgrounds and water play areas right on the river. All in all, Bright is fantastic - we have had many holidays there over the last 25 years and will keep returning as we love it so much. A very beautiful town with everything you need for a weekend away. Lunch at the hotel was very expensive but wholesome. We enjoyed a trip to the Apple orchard. Beautiful place to visit, especially in Autumn (although make sure you wrap up well as it was cold). That didn't bother us as we went prepared. Lovely drives all around if you have your own transport. We went to Mt. Buffalo, the Stag & Deer Farm and drove around the neighbouring towns too. Lots of historical buildings to see and lots of yummy Bakeries to stop and have coffee and cake in. Bright has some lovely places to eat and drink - the local Reed and Co Gin Distillery is the perfect spot for an afternoon visit. The room was neat, clean, and very comfortable – exactly what you hope for in a relaxing getaway. There was plenty of space to spread out and feel at home. The location is excellent too – just a short walk to the river and very close to the main street of Bright, so everything you need is within easy reach. It’s a perfect base for exploring the area. The lounge room was warm with the split system, but the bedrooms were cold, unless the doors were left open. There was a small heater in the cupboard for one of bedrooms.
