Check in was easy. Parking is covered and right across the street where you can walk through to the front desk. Apartment was fantastic- new, modern, clean and comfy beds. Ours had two bedrooms and two bathrooms with actual regular doors - it bothers me how some hotels do the bathroom glass or barn doors now….Bar/food/breakfast available on first floor. Pool is fantastic. Grocery market and coffee shop across the street. Great location!

Too much fatty/sugary food not for diet conscious like us. Would have liked more greens or cottage cheese, olives or smoked salmon. Tea could have been leaves, not a bag.

The hotel is at an excellent location, with everything from restaurants and shops right there on a short walk. The hotel promised to be pet friendly and they were not only friendly but amazingly friendly! Fully recommended to travel with your pets as both the room and facilities in general are great. They had some goodies in the entrance to welcome the pets (treats, wet wipes, doggy bags) that were also great!

FAQs about hotels in Canberra

Culture, Politics and Military Mix

A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.

Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.

The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.

The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.

Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

Well laid out city with plenty of good options for eating and drinking. Great parks and walks, The Floriade was amusing. We were at a convention so did not visit many museums. Many good accommodation options. Not a lot of character - it is a planned city and relatively modern.

We really enjoyed riding the e-bikes around the top spots. Floriade was really beautiful with gorgeous tulips, yummy food, Ferris wheel, music and market stalls. The night fest was enjoyable. Floriade just goes for a month. Always great to see Parliament House with free tours, Anzac Parade leading up to the War Memorial. We also cycled to Jerrabomberra wetlands and Lennox Park. Such fun! Cockington Green was nice too. Took an uber here. We didn’t get to the Canberra centre. Canberra is so beautiful with lots of trees, parks and the lovely Lake Burley Griffin.

This is an adult city. The attractions are all worthwhile. It is sometimes difficult to purchase quality ingredients if you are self catering. Artisan bread foe example is hard to find. Using taxis is a better deal than a hire car.

The purpose of my visit was a professional conference.

The purpose of my visit was a professional conference. Hence, I cannot truly comment on the tourist attractions. The Floriade is a nice distraction particularly for nature/flower enthusiasts. It is a busy space surrounded by water. Parliament House is almost certainly worth a visit for the newcomer. The art galleries are somewhat hit/miss (Nat. Portrait and Nat. Art Galleries). Fabulous building constructions with so little to show for it on the inside, but then this may be in the eye of the beholder. No match for National Art Galleries in the rest of the world's major cities. There are other attractions, no doubt, like science museums and the War Memorial.

The Meriton Suites is the best hotel/apartments I have ever stayed at in Canberra. New, clean, sleek, stylish, location A+, parking is cheap, and above all, it is the staff that make all the difference - huge shoutout to Camille, Tayla, Livia, Alina and Jana - You guys were part of making my Wedding week so special. You all were so kind, helpful and accommodating to myself, my bridal party and our entire family staying at the Meriton. Thank you for everything!
