Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.

Darwin had a really good vibe, quite a tropical feel about it. We found it very clean in all areas we visited and lots of things to do while staying there. Most places are not too far in distance but we think you definitely need a car to make that easier plus for us it was extremely hot when we were there so walking wasn't really an option. We ate at a couple of great restaurants. Highly recommend Hunuman's & Pee Wee. Both great food and atmosphere! We did the jumping Croc tour on the Adelaide River which we enjoyed and spent a full day exploring Litchfield National Park and surrounds. So much to do. Darwin is a great city to visit.
Darwin is a great city to visit. It has a very interesting history on many levels from WW2 to Cyclone Tracey. Both events practically wiped out Darwin but locals were determined to rebuild their city and it is now a very modern city. We took the hop on hop off bus for a very interesting snapshot of the city and suburbs. We LOVED the sunny clear weather. The people are friendly and pretty relaxed. The people who were looking after us either in restaurants or uber drivers or the wonderful staff at the MAGNT CENTRE (an absolutely fantastic experience) were professional courteous and genuine in their hospitality and service. The locals were fun and friendly, laid back . The city architecture is varied and awesome as is the unbelievable multiple street art trail works. Swimming in the lagoon and waterfalls. Mindil Beach and the Market for the spectacular sunsets, The Sailing Club and the Trailer Boat Club to eat. The Jumping Croc Tour was excellent, up close and personal with the crocs. Live music at pubs in the evening. Hop On and Hop Off Bus is well worth it. The Information Centre was extremely helpful, would highly recommend. People very friendly. A must try is the Humpty Doo Saltwater Barramundi. A visit to the Museums is worth a visit re the bombing of Darwin and Cyclone Tracy. Excellent service with the use of an Uber. Would highly recommend a visit to Darwin.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Darwin was a wonderful place to visit, with a very compact CBD with good services. However, you probably need a car as many of the attractions are out of town. The outdoor cinema was very cool, and we were fortunate to be there when the Darwin Festival was on. There are some interesting WW2 tours and museum. The newer Waterfront area is really nice and unfortunately the only place where you can swim in the sea due to the risk of crocodiles at other beaches.
