A small friendly town in the south of Tasmania.
A small friendly town in the south of Tasmania. A good area to base yourself for trips to Cockle Creek, Hastings caves and Southport. The local scenic roads can be windy at times, with patches of dirt roads which can vary in their condition depending on the time of year. Beautiful views of the Channel and Bruny island as well as the many bays and inlets. There is a small IGA in town, a BP service station with driveway service... open 7 day a week. certainly, a bit of a rarity in this day of self-serve! There is a golf club which also has food service, and a couple of small cafes. You need to check the opening hours as they weren't open during our stay.Guest review byMrs PicklesAustralia - 10.0

Dover is a wonderful place, fairly small, and it is easy to get around if you have your own transport. It has an RSL Club and a very well stocked IGA. There are also a couple of cafes. The town is close to a number of Tourist Attractions such as the Hastings Caves and the Huon Valley. It is a great part of the world!!!Guest review byWebber - 10.0

Host were fantastic and accommodating to our needs with a shower chair made available along with good suggestions and help with dinner arrangements. The beds were very comfortable, and rooms were very nicely presented in different themes filled with interesting materials. There were excellent little extras such as various sized gum boots outside to allow for easy adventure of their property down to a bird hide and river, and the wildlife. The serenity of the area made for a quiet and restful night's sleep. The breakfast I warn you is big, with a delightful homemade muesli to start followed by some fresh eggs from their chickens combined with a bounty fit for a king with bacon, sausages, mushrooms and more. Pros - We loved the scenic beauty and tranquility, the bird life (seagulls, black swans, cormorants, ducks etc), the coast and bays, the farms, bushland, nearby forests and caves, and spectacular sunrise. The IGA was great to buy provisions. Cons - We were there on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights and we didn’t want to cook dinner, but there was only one place open for dinner in Dover early in the week - the RSL. The other eating places in Dover are only open for dinner for 2 or 3 nights between Thursday and Saturday. That was very disappointing. We had take-away sushi from Masaaki’s at Geeveston on Sunday (superb) , dinner at Dover RSL on Monday (ok) and had to travel all the way to the Kermandie Hotel for dinner on Tuesday night (quite good). Unfortunately there’s no bakery in Dover (just what’s at IGA).Guest review byJaneAustralia

We loved waking up to the sound of gentle waves and having such a beautiful view of Port Esperance Bay from the dining room...so relaxing. Castaway Cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and being pet friendly our little Sheltie was able to enjoy too. A lot of thought went into making our stay comfortable with delicious welcome gifts, complimentary breakfast, lights turned on and a warm fire welcoming us upon our arrival. The beds were comfortable and warm, nice touch with different art works and a library filled with an assortment of books.
