    Unfortunately the city centre is dying & doesn’t have much to offer! Thank goodness for the Cowboys league club! The food, atmosphere & the staff gave 100 percent & saved our trip a bit thank goodness!

    i use to live there for a long time. it is what it is as a town like most. i only come up every few years to see my crew or reunion etc. it's more a blue collar city then say Cairns which is tourism. it's pretty easy to Network in and get contacts for work. most visit for the Cowboy games and concerts from what i could see. a trip to Magnetic Island is definitely worth it. walking up Castle Hill and the Strand is what i miss. i personally don't go anywhere near the place from Oct till March as the humidity/heat will drain you soul. There is no surf as the Great barrier reef starts about Rockhampton but as Mentioned , Magnetic Island is worth it. it's not a tourist resort trap like say Airlie beach. People live over there and commute to work as it;s 20 min by ferry. Also, like all of North Queensland, you can't swim in the ocean then as it has Stingers. (don't muck about with it ether as they will kill you.) It is a garrison city and rightfully proud of it with the biggest Army base and RAAF. so yes, the ratio of men to women is alot. Flinders St is where all the clubs are if that's your thing. And the Casino or "the Ville" is pretty relaxed with awesome views of the bay. like most places it has it's problems with youth crime but if your just being a tourist, you won't see or hear about it. it's pretty safe place to just get out and about.

    Townsville is great to walk around & get the feeling of the city. I stayed in Townsville city and walked all the way to Pallarenda Beach 8 kms each way.. which was great. (There was a City Bus available - just as back up for me..) Cycling would be great - I plan to take my bicycle next time so I can discover even more.. is less time. Other Townsville highlights * The Marina * The Tobruk Swimming Pool * Jezzine Barracks was really to visit. * Castle Hill - Day & Night visit is worth it! * The Townsville Railway Station.

    To see all the attractions and tourist attractions guests...

    To see all the attractions and tourist attractions guests would definately need to consider a hire car. We could not have achieved what we did without a hire car. Dining options in the Palmer Mtreet area are excellent.

    Townsville is huge, when you go up Castle Hill and look at...

    Townsville is huge, when you go up Castle Hill and look at the town it is unbelievable how big it is. Choose your accomodation carefully to be near the attractions you want to visit. Castle Hill has awesome views of the town and shows you how vast it is. Magnetic Island is beautiful you can get to it by ferry or take the car on another ferry.

    Never been before, so flying in to this port city in between...

    Never been before, so flying in to this port city in between mountains just touching the clouds was brautiful. Saw the stadium where the Cowboys play! The Strand was beautiful on a sunny winters day and we were there for a sports event so we were surprised to see everything from basketball, hockey, rugby and even a darts complex all in one district. Anyways we enjoyed see ya next time.

    Great location in a quieter part of Townsville, yet very close to the strand and Palmer Street (only a few minutes drive). Our apartment had stunning views of the water and a very spacious balcony. It was the perfect size for a family of three. We will definitely be staying here again! Love the bonus of a cafe downstairs for a nice coffee in the morning. The best part was the value for money. It was one of the cheapest accommodation we could find in Townsville that offered two bedrooms

    The Strand Motel is the perfect location, right on the Strand and walking distance into town, with Coles right around the corner for any groceries you might need. The staff were friendly, and while it was a little outdated, it was clean with a comfortable bed and cold air con - just what you need in Townsville! The kitchette was small, but functional with a fridge/freezer of decent size. The Cafe offered large servings and wasn't too overpriced for breakfast.

    Location is brilliant, close enough to the Strand without the passing foot or vehicle traffic noise. Great for accessing cafes, hotels, beach etc. Apartment was huge! Not just the living spaces but also the bedrooms and bathrooms- loved the balcony, full kitchen & laundry too.
