How often do you get the chance to live in a palace? This was the palace where Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary of Burgundy lived (and indeed where she passed). The hotel is beautiful and is nicely located in Bruges, close to everything but not in the middle of it all. That is to say, you get the best of both worlds. Our room had a city view with big windows, allowing you to see the entire Bruges skyline, listen to the bells, and see one of the golden statues of the Duke’s Palace that adorn the roofline. The bathroom was spacious and had a separate bathtub and shower cabin. There was a window from the bathroom into the main room, which was nice. Breakfast had many options, including a station where you could carve your own Belgium chocolate (dark, milk, and white) with a two-handled knife! There were lots of fresh fruit options, waffles, and even sparkling wine. Many standard breakfast foods were available in the buffet, but omelets and lactose-free coffee options are available when you ask. The back room of the dining area is a little dark and not as nice as the front part, which has a wall of windows which allows you to see the palace while you eat. A coffeemaker is in the room, and we asked for a tea kettle and bottle opener from the front desk. There is a nice souvenir store just around the corner that stays open later than the other stores and sells a good variety of Belgium beers (and other things). We enjoyed staying in the Palace and it added to the experience of being in historic Bruges.

Bruges was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe.

Bruges was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Communication for English speakers is easy because everyone appears to speak English as well as other languages. The old town is spotless and well preserved and the Bruges card for multiple museum entry is good value. Restaurants are on the expensive side for the Aussie dollar but the staff make up for that with their friendly approach. We hired an e-bike and rode to the Netherlands for a day trip! Bruges lives up to the photos!

Liked the walking tour of Bruges (excellent brochure available from the Tourist Information Centre) and the Visit Bruges app. Enjoyed a cruise on a canal boat, which provides a perspective on the town not available when walking. Loved the many grand old buildings. Autumn seems to be a good time to visit; I can imagine the crowds of tourists in the summer time would be overwhelming and make for an unpleasant experience.

The city is like a fairy tale.

The city is like a fairy tale. Everywhere you look, every street you walk is beautiful. Good restaurants. Great museums. Start by a boat tour and then visit the same places on foot. I highly recommend to rent a bike and in just one day you would have visited the whole town.

We loved Bruges, it is so quaint and easy to walk around. We followed the canals everywhere, found some lovely shops, cafes, markets and the further from the touristy centre, the nice and cheaper they were. We stayed 4 nights, We did a fabulous walking tour with Peter, a great way to learn the history and find where places are. We visited museums, art gallery, markets and a boat ride. On 1 day we caught the train to Ghent and back, and for 65yrs+ you can catch a train to anywhere in Belgium return on the same day for 8.50Euros, great value.

Fantastic staff, patient with our needs. I think it was Annie who was the lady on reception and helping with breakfast, She deserves a medal. Breakfast was buffet/served with very wide choice including eggs cooked to order. Room was at the top of one of the towers, Spectacular in size and character, Bathroom modern but classic in style with big clawfoot bath and truly spacious. AND all thus within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Bruges. By far the best hotel we have stayed in for many years .
