Spiez is a beautiful town and nicely situated on Lake Thun. It is less commercialized than Interlaken (which we liked) but is centrally located to take day trips to other locations. Spiez is very accessible by train - it is beautifully set on a bay on Lake Thun, with a good castle as a bonus feature. There are many local excursions and excellent walks available, including lake trips. Water sports and lake bathing are popular. Longer rail trips are possible to a number of destinations - Zermatt, Gstaad, Interlaken and Montreux. As small town, not too many shops or services, but probably enough to meet most needs. Since I arrived late, the self-service check-in was very smooth, thank you all the staff! The room was beautiful and furnished in such a stylish style that we couldn't leave it.
