FAQs about hotels in Aachen

Charming Emperor’s Residence

A political center and favorite residence of Charlemagne, Aachen is located in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. A spa town since Ancient Roman times, it has some of the hottest springs in Europe. Its Old Town keeps important architectonic jewels, like the Cathedral ordered by Charlemagne in 786, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With a unique mix of styles, the Cathedral is the final resting place for Charlemagne’s remains, and served as coronation church for 30 German kings and 12 queens. Guesthouses and hotels in Aachen’s historic center are a romantic way of enjoying the city.

The RWTH University is one of the country’s "Universities of Excellence", part of the technologic profile of a city that is regarded as one of the most innovative in Germany. In fact, a large number of Aachen hotels have congress facilities.

It is located 40 miles from Cologne and 24 miles from Maastricht/Aachen Airport. Connections to major European capitals are available from the central train station, while several hotels nearby will help you to avoid the last-minute rush.

Whether you want to relax in the baths or come to town for a lecture, don’t miss the Aachen accommodations deals available on Booking.com!

We love the architectural sights so enjoyed walking around the city. Unfortunately we picked a Sunday for sight seeing which we have found in most European cities not to be a good idea as most venues are close while the ones open do have an entrance fee. We definitely will go back but the stay closer to the city center as a stop on the way to Cologne. I think the experience on a Saturday would be considerably different to what we experienced on a Sunday. The City Square is always worth a visit with many small coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants and many of the key attractions are walking distance from the Main Square. The christmas market is planned for the next visit.

We were overwhelmed by the splendour of the cathedral, and delighted by the new Charlemagne centre. Had there been more time we would have explored the city's history as displayed in the centre. The shops - both conventional and tourist-oriented - are excellent. There are many and various places for a coffee, drink or snack as well as good restaurants.

Aachen was really interesting.

Aachen was really interesting. It is great for a 2 day visit. You can tour the Charlemagne sites in about 3-4 hours and then enjoy the local shops, restaurants, and pubs for the remainder of the time. It is only about 1 hour from Brussels and 30 minutes from Cologne.

Aachen is a really beautiful city with lots of interesting history predominantly about Charlemagne. The cathedral is stunning. For English people I would highly recommend taking the English language guided tour. It gets you in to parts of the cathedral not available to other visitors. Book in advance as we found to our dismay that the English tour was booked up for the day so had to take the German one which was a bit of a strain on my rudimentary German

I love the medieval and 19th century buildings in Aachen.

I love the medieval and 19th century buildings in Aachen. Due to the university, the population is young. And there are lots of activities, so that you will rarely feel bored. Mayersche is an excellent bookshop.

I know Aachen well and it is our favourite place to stop over during a long drive from the UK to Austria, and returning. It is full of history with many places of interest and a wide variety of attractions for all ages. It has changed over the decades we have been coming here, so there is sadness as well as delight as changes occur, but that is life too. I would recommend it to anyone who is facing a long journey and seeks a break point because of its location and access for drivers and families, especially pet owners. There is a wide variety of restaurants and parks to revive yur spirits.

Great menu for food and reasonable prices too. Wonderful location on the outskirts of the city but buses run every 10 mins and the bus stop is right outside the hotel. Aachen is a place to amble through, lots of small streets and the shopping was fabulous. We left our car in the large carpark. Quite safe. Our room was quite big considering the prices, well laid out and quiet after the restaurant closes at 9.30. Definitely a place worth returning to even just for the food!

If you are looking for a reasonably priced placed in Aachen you are going to struggle - not sure why as Germany is packed full of beautiful places to stay at a fraction of the price. That said, Soers Hotel works for an overnight stay or two: it is within walking distance of the town centre; close to the park & ride at Tivoli; clean, spacious rooms (ours was at any rate) and helpful staff.

The staff (we interacted mostly with Markus) were courteous and helpful, told us everything we needed to know when we checked in. The room was a little cramped, but neat, clean and comfortable. It's right next to the Aachen Hauptbahnhof (main train station) with easy bus connection to all parts of the city and neighboring towns. The city centre and its sights are just a 15min walk away

Simple hotel on the outskirt of the city, but within walking distance of the City Centre. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and the hotel offered a very good value for money for a one night stay.
