Germany’s Wine Capital

Mainz is a German city on the banks of the Rhine River, just a 40-minute drive from the vibrant metropolis of Frankfurt. Combining the old with the new, this destination has a historic centre with modern structures, monumental buildings, half-timbered houses and Baroque churches.

One of the main attractions of the city is St. Stephan church with the colourful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. The weekly market in front of the Cathedral features everything a traveller could wish, from flowers to fresh local products and clothes.

You should not miss the futuristic building of the New Synagogue designed by Manuel Herz, as well as the museums of Mainz State, Ancient Shipping and the Gutenberg Museum.

Known for its sparkling wine, Mainz is Germany’s wine capital thanks to its excellent 200-year tradition. The natural reserve of the Mainz Sand Dunes is home to pre-glacial plant vestiges and rare animals.

Frankfurt International Airport is about 20 km away and has flights to Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Madrid and Copenhagen. Designed by Philipp Johann Berdellé, the Central Station of Mainz Hauptbahnhof connects the city with Mannheim and Rüsselsheim. So close to Frankfurt without staying in Frankfurt.

So close to Frankfurt without staying in Frankfurt. A smaller city but full of sightseeing opportunities. We walked everywhere and took a rhine river cruise to St Goar and returned to Mainz by train. Many restaurants surrounded the hotel quadrant.

Like every other big city it has good and less good parts.

Like every other big city it has good and less good parts. But the best parts are the Rhine and the Altstadt. Also really nice museums and a lot of interesting buildings. The atmosphere is very pleasant and I felt like home. Almost every street has something to show to you. If you want to thoroughly visit it and actually see everything you have to stay at least 5 days (maybe even 7). We were lucky to be there during the wine festival in the Stadtpark and it was great. And do not miss the ferry ride on the Rhine, it is magnificent.

Mainz is a compact and interesting city with a past that dates back to Roman times, It is also the birth place of Johannes Gutenberg who is celebrated by a large festival each June, Explore on foot or buy a daily pass to help you get around.

Excellent town to start your journey up the Rhine river. Many choices of restaurants and walking paths. Loved the different whimsical water fountains and St. Stephen church with the blue stained glass.

Lovely accommodation, close to the train station with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Not too far from the shopping centre and the old town and the river are within walking distance. The room itself was spotlessly clean, with cooking facilities if needed. The room was cleaned daily and there was a breakfast included which, although described as a 'snack' was Lovely and fresh and more than enough to start the day. The staff could not have been more helpful and communication was excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is like a very pleasant surprise in the beautiful city of MAINZ. Very clean, very comfortable. the staff was super helpful (especially Mr. Mehdi and others whom in not aware of names). Very well decorated and rooms full of detailed amenities up to the level of dental floss. Great work by the hotel management and i think it will be a great success. Even the soaps, shampoos and conditioners were of organic type and not containing sodium laureth sulfate which is great.

The hotel location is excellent, 100 meters opposite the train station. There are Arabic restaurants on the opposite side, and more than one restaurant and coffe shop. The room is suitable for one person, quiet and clean. I did not try the breakfast. Note: every time I visit Germany, I stay in this hotel for a night and tour Mainz and then move to Koblenz.
