Very small and cute, plenty of options for food and drinks and the Castle is just superb! Fantastic for a short romantic getaway or a trip for one's self and relaxation in nature. We stayed 3 nights. We spent 1 full day in Schwerin.
We stayed 3 nights. We spent 1 full day in Schwerin. The castle is more impressive from the outside but as it is not expensive it's OK to visit. German and English information boards in every room that is open. Don't bother with a guided tour unless you are keen on German history. We went at 10.00 a.m. and avoided the crowds which we saw later. Schwerin Cathedral is worth a visit and only 2 euros to climb the tower for some good views. But overall the town is a bit ordinary, or maybe we had already visited prettier and more historic towns on our way there... There is a big, busy and modern shopping mall in the town centre. Perhaps this has harmed the commercial success of the shops not in the shopping centre? Only a one night stop-over but we found it to be a very interesting city that we will return to explore and visit the castle. Our favorite city so far. Peaceful, beautiful, great food. The lake is amazing. I’d love to hire a houseboat and drive around. The castle is stunning.
