Situated on the north coast of Spain, the seaside city of Santander is the capital of Cantabria. This beautiful city has it all; from stunning beaches and green gardens to captivating museums and a bustling city centre.
Overlooking the lighthouse of the Mauro Island, the popular sandy beach of Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio. These magnificent gardens feature Canarian palm trees, blue eucalyptus and colourful flower beds.
Located on the Magdalena Peninsula, the imposing Palacio de la Magdalena has a neoclassic French and English style. Wander around the green gardens and visit the small zoo; home to penguins, seals and other sea animals.
The Cathedral of Santander is a historic landmark in the city centre. Built between the 12th and 14th century, this historic monument consists of two Gothic churches. The Alameda de Oviedo Boulevard is a shopping paradise where you can find everything you need.
Enjoy a walk at the wide seaside promenade, where you will find a big selection of cafés and restaurants to choose from. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels, guest houses and apartments in the area. The international Santander Airport is the only one in Cantabria.

Before our stay, I'd only thought of Santander as a port.
Before our stay, I'd only thought of Santander as a port. However, it has so much more to offer. The beaches are large and amazing. We stayed at Hotel ChiQui, which was at the end of the beach road. A great choice with friendly service & excellent food, also free parking on-site. It's an easy walk into the centre of Santander on the beach promenade. There's also a tourist bus that offers a combined bus, land train & boat experience, which is excellent. I'll definitely add a stay in Santander to my next trip to Spain by Ferry. We loved being near the water.
We loved being near the water. The harbour is beautiful with a wide promenade and you can walk a long way to beach or into city. Many of the buildings are lovely. Aside from the lovely hotel staff where we stayed we did find hospitality rather unfriendly. People serving us in bars/cafes/restaurants rarely cracked a smile. Beautiful beaches but you can see why this place hasn’t taken off as a tourist resort. No one speaks English. It’s not child friendly. Nothing opens until 9. Santander is a popular resort for mainly Spanish visitors. It's an attractive city with plenty to see and do. It's family friendly too. It's easy to get to nearby Bilbao, or to Potes in the mountains. There are fast and frequent coach services all over the region. It may not attract A list celebrities or have the glamour of San Sebastian, but it has plenty of appeal if you are looking for a sun and sea holiday, and pinxtos too!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
