FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.

From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

Helsinki is an old city with many interesting old buildings. The streets are clean and not crowded. It is very walkable city with an UNESCO site of old fortress. Walking along the shore around the fortress was so beautiful. By the way do not forget trying salmon soup and cinnamon bread.

I really like the nature and architecture, but for me, at night there is not much to do as a young traveller. I walked around the city and sat nearby the lake and many gardens and many beautiful streets, but native people are not social (as expected, actually). It was fun to be here. I can recommend Lazy Fox for breakfast :)

The architecture, the ease of going around, including on foot, the happy local people- no one is rushing. I liked observing the birds. It was amusing. There were no flies. It’s clean and transport is efficient. Everyone seems to speak English - no problem there. It is pricey like London. Maybe true of most European cities- it’s not cheap to visit.

Beautiful city with great parks and restaurants and art, all very walkable. Lots of history, extremely clean, and easy to navigate. Finns are very polite if self-contained and it's a lovely place to explore a culture that appreciates sophistication and nature together in one place. Plus, it's very dog friendly! Lots of pets around town and my own canine companion was very welcome wherever we went.

Helsinki is just a wonderful city. Not too big, not small. Lots to do. Beautiful environment. The town has grown with the times, adding some modern buildings without sacrificing the old world charm. Architecture spectacular. Would go back if I plan a trip in that area again.

Excellent location and outstanding service – the staff were helpful and supportive at every step. The option to store luggage both before check-in and after check-out was very convenient. The hotel is very close to the city center. The room was spacious and well equipped. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I would definitely return!

As we arrived on the ferry it is a convenient location a few meters from the ferry terminal. The hotel is very pleasant and our room was very spacious. It’s a short walk to the market area and just a bit further to the city center. The tram is close by too.
