Chaumont is charming. About 25 minutes drive to visit the Charles De Gaulle Memorial in Colombey Les Deux Eglise. I highly recommend a trip to the village to enjoy the memorial and local champagne house. Chaumont has friendly locals and delicious food.Guest review byAnonymous - 6.0

Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed. We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings.
We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation. For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good.... After staying in a not very pleasant hotel in Switzerland it was a relief to stay in a clean, comfortable and modern hotel in Chaumont. An ideal location for anybody travelling across France from the UK. The staff were lovely too.Guest review byPinnington

This was personified by the owner who was exceptionally welcoming, personable and attentive throughout as befits someone with a lifetime in hotel management and direction.
