We were not in the centre of Pontorson but in the...
We were not in the centre of Pontorson but in the countryside about a mile or so towards Mont St Michel. Pontorson had a few places to eat out and we tried a couple and enjoyed them but we found that most opened in the evening for a short time and closed quite early (it was Mid September) which wasn't good if we'd been out for the day and arrived back later. There was a McDonalds as a last resort which we used rather than go without food but we soon learned to find somewhere to eat on the way if we were going to be back late. We can recommend a chain called Del Arte for a nice Italian in Avranches and other places and there is an Indian restaurant (Moonlight) in Dol-de Bretagne where we had a nice meal for a reasonable price. We found most places in Pontorson quite expensive but the food was good. The town was clean and pleasant enough with ample free parking.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10

In general, the area has many activities. I think you want a day for Mont Saint Michel. You can go hiking, horseback riding, helicopter rides, it's like a zoo. It has many things, I think it took 2-3 days to explore the area.Guest review byJohnGreece - 6.0

Pontorson is really a cute little town with lots of cafes and restaurants. It is a very convenient place to stay to visit Le Mont St. Michel if not coming with your own car, although the local buses have quite limited schedules for getting there and back. Pontorson was as a base for our visit Mont St Michel . We took a scheduled bus near the train station to Mont St Michel. Our stay at Pontorson was 3 days 2 nights We train from Paris to Rennes with connecting train from Rennes to Pontorson . When we arrived at Rennes found out our connecting train to Pontorson was cancelled due to the rail strikes. Thanks to SNCF they issued us fresh tickets for a soon to be departing train to Del de Bretagne. SNCF at Del de Bretagne arranged a taxi to take us our B&B, VILLA Mons. It’s about 9km to Le mont saint Michel, we chose to rent bicycles for the day that was €20 each. The tent we stayed in was super spacious and had all the cooking equipment you could ask for.
