Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France, but the city centre is compact and easy to walk around. There is a metro for longer journeys. There are many great places to eat. There is a lot to see in the city centre and the Canal de Midi and the River Garonne are great places to walk. The key advantage of Toulouse is that it is an excellent centre to explore other towns and cities such as Albi, Carcasonne, Foix and Narbonne some of the cities on the coast. The train service from Toulouse is excellent. The Occcitanie regional government have a rail pass for the whole region which works out at 10 euros per day. Just research Occitanie Rail Pass online. I love the gardens and parks.
I love the gardens and parks. Having to choose one every other time was mind blowing. Every park has its own unique touch and ambiance making it hard to say which one was the best. The first one I've visited was the one in Cité de l'espace where my heart sunk due to its unique beauty. The Jradin des plantes in Carmes is breathtaking the same. The Japonais Garden in Canal du Midi is just the place for meditation and relaxation. Every town has its own flavour and that makes Toulouse exceptional. We were only there for 24 hours, but it's a pretty city with lots to explore. We found a couple of walking tours online and combined them to fit the time we had, but managed to see lots of interest in the city centre. Toulouse cafe culture is wonderful.
Toulouse cafe culture is wonderful. The architecture is also stunning. The old town streets and alleys are a joy to walk in, as is the Garonne riverside. We loved eating in the restaurants in Place Saint-George and the Place du Capitole. The basilica and the Couvent des Jacobins are stunning architecture and history. Everything in the old town is easy walking distance, mainly on the level. Toulouse is a welcoming city. I found it a relaxing place with enough to see and enjoy without any pressure.Good metro to get around but plenty to see by walking. Spoilt for restaurant choices from the busy one's to the smaller quieter one's all providing good meals and good wine.
