Amberley is a beautiful hotel in lovely grounds in a very pretty village. The service is fantastic and the rooms are lovely. The food is perfection, so although it’s very expensive, it is a real treat. I only have one word of advice. If you value your privacy in the lavatory, do not book Winchelsea room as there is no door between the bedroom and the bathroom. Lots of different spaces, including a garden that must be lovely in the summer. A quiet time of year, but lots of locals in and a real feeling of local pub (couple of entitled loud-mouths at one point, but I managed to move away). Food was top drawer, and even if Amberley ale is brewed 15 minutes' drive away it's a good pint if you like golden but not too hoppy. The castle is beautiful, the rooms exceptionally comfortable & clean. With only 19 rooms it was never overcrowded so there was always a comfortable sofa to relax on, in one of the three lounges. In fairness to the hotel, they took the price of the evening meal off the bill so they were very fair. I was upgraded to a suite but basic things like there was no milk for the tea although a very kind night porter brought some over to the room when i rang and asked.
