The property was absolutely breath-taking! The rooms are situated on a hill opposite a running river, sheep, and more pheasants than I've seen in my life! There are clean facilities there. Bathrooms were clean and convenient. There's a shared miniature cabin where you can make use of the wood burning stove, some basic kitchen utensils, seating, books/guides for local attractions, and some board games in case the weather gets too wet for outdoor activities.

Absolutely loved this accommodation and the host Helen and her employee Lisa! Enjoyed chatting with them about our day and having a good laugh. And the breakfast was the best we have every had! We went to Ballater to be close to Balmoral Castle, where we went to an artisans market on the grounds. We were there in October, so opening of other parts of the castle were not available, due to royal residence use. I would return to this beautiful part of Scotland again if given the chance, to see more of the castle.

Beautiful little town in a stunning location. The town is decorated with the most amazing hanging baskets. Several pubs, all seemed to be busy and offered good value food. The town is ideally located for exploring the beautiful area

A very scenic town centre.

A very scenic town centre. A good supermarket and several specialist shops (bookshop especially) . just try and avoid the sweetshop (far too tempting) Several nice restaurants and an excellent fish and chip shop. Bike hire by the old station and easy routes along the old line.

Ballater is a lovely village.

Ballater is a lovely village. Very clean and tidy as you would expect being so close to Balmoral Castle. Beautiful hanging baskets outside the shops Plenty of cafes and gift shops. Lovely village green around the Church in the centre of Ballater with seating areas . Free car park and free parking around the Church. Lovely village to visit or stay. We stayed overnight at The Barrel before visiting Balmoral Castle the following day.

It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have...

It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have stayed in on our trip we had been away for 4 weeks and this place by far the very best. Homemade cakes and a great breakfast. Highly recommend to everyone to stay, but you should stay a minimum of two nights.

This was a quirky place to stay, in a good way. The building was fabulous and very inviting. There was work going on, which did not impede on my stay. It was very dog friendly with a great walk at the back of the hotel in the woods. Food was nice and breakfast was a continental which was available til 10:00. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. The room, whilst on the small side was clean and comfortable. It was a great base for exploring Royal Deeside I would definitely stay here again

Wonderful staff. Managing to run the hotel efficiently from breakfast to bedtime, and be friendly and helpful too. We loved the massive super-comfy bed. Such an extensive varied menu we ate in every night for the whole week. No hotel car park but we never had any problem parking very nearby. Location is perfect for strolling up the pretty main street to the village green, or exploring one of the waymarked 'Ballater Paths'

Property and room were spotlessly clean and well appointed. Located in the middle of Ballater within easy walk of all amenities. Hosts were friendly and accommodating too. They even booked a local hotel for my meal. Will definitely return.

The location of the hotel is excellent in the centre of Ballater opposite the church. Free parking was available nearby. The staff in the reception and bar were exceptional. The food was very good at dinner as well as the cooked breakfast
