This largest village in UK was a perfect centre to explore. Barnstaple and Ilfracombe were a short distance away, with regular busses. From the Barnstaple you could catch the train to Exeter. The area is quite unspoilt - it has spectacular views and is a very attractive area - plenty for the family , safe bathing - local shops are very friendly and have local produce for sale . Also a weekly market and craft fair . Be prepared for traffic in and around Braunton during the day , but it is worth it when you get there. For those interested in seeing butterflies and being close to nature , the downs are the place to explore , as well as the sand dunes . We were playing golf at Saunton just down the road and rather than have a long travel back after a super day, we decided to have a 'lay over' and head off in the morning. So although it was a very short stay, we enjoyed the spa, dinner in the restaurant, and breakfast the following morning before heading home. High spec and comfortable interior makes it feel like a boutique hotel. We only stayed 2 nights for a wedding but I would return for a longer time.
