I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't have long to look round but my main feeling was to wonder why nobody's mentioned how lovely it is. It has some stunning historical buildings to see and the city had a nice vibe. It's also really conveniently located for the Lake District and has rail links directly to it. The room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. It’s a 20 minute east walk to the town centre with free parking on site. We ate dinner at the hotel and enjoyed it very much- good quality hotel prepared and cooked and a couple of drinks. The breakfast area is lovely, the breakfast food is of a high standard and the staff and service was top class.
