Castleford is looking sad, but there is a stadium, so incorporate a rugby game with your visit. Pontefract race course is close. Visit junction 32, and Xscape. I stayed just for one night.
I stayed just for one night. It was raining and was very windy, so I didn't get to visit any of the outdoor places I wanted to, but the Carlton Lanes shopping centre was nice to visit and unlike in Leeds which is so busy there were no queues in December for Christmas shopping in the shops I wanted to buy from. Castleford has regular bus services to Leeds, at a fair price and it is also connected by train. I stay in Castleford at the Wheldale Hotel in order to visit with my family in Barwick in Elmet and cannot comment on Castleford attractions or facilities. The pub itself was quiet (it was a Monday afterall) but a 5-10 minute walk took you to a good weatherspoons with some life. I reckon that this pub on other days could be very busy.
