The property is located in a beautiful location and the staff was very friendly . Cozy and compact rooms. The bathroom in our room had a foul smell probably because its a fairly old building. But all in all definitely a nice stay.

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. Fort William is a lovely little town with a beautiful Loch, it is a bit touristy for my liking but there are so many wonderful things to do in or near by that it is well worth a stay here. The museum in the town is a treat, Inverlochy castle is a little treasure. The Nevis range cable car is a must, the views at the top are breathtaking and not to be missed. Also nearby is The Glenfinnan monument & viaduct, again absolutely beautiful views & an absolute must. There is more but we had a limited time.

    A friendly place.

A friendly place. The museum is great and the old fellow who greets you was lovely, and informative. The shops were good and interesting. The Volunteer pub was brilliant. Cozy Cafe was lovely. The free church had a lovely little cafe, tea and cake, very welcoming people. It all felt safe, and easy to find somewhere to have a good time.

The main reason for our visit to Fort William was a first class ride on "The Jacobite" steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, which came for three people - one adult, two kids - at a 260 pounds price tag. It was a brilliant autumn day with a unique blend of the Scottish landscape and the historic train setting - full marks!

Only had a day there but went on a boat trip in the morning. Nice little shopping centre and the church was worth a visit. Lots of shops, pubs and eating places. Had a very nice dinner at Crannog restaurant. We were too late to see the Museum as it was just shutting at 4.00 pm.

We stayed at Ossians Hotel in Fort William after completing the final stage of the West Highland Way. The hotel is located right in the charming pedestrian zone, which makes it very convenient for exploring the town on foot. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which we really appreciated after a long day of hiking. The beds were fairly comfortable, and a simple breakfast was offered free of charge. Overall, the hotel served its purpose for a short stay and provided the essentials we needed after finishing our long-distance hike.
