A town full of history and charm, with some amazing countryside in the surrounding area, including the historic city of Lincoln, and also Boston, whence the pilgrim fathers set sail for New England, as they called it, during the early years of the 17th century.

We stayed at the Belton Hall Hotel, for four nights.

We stayed at the Belton Hall Hotel, for four nights. The first day we went to Belton House, which is one of the nicest National Trust properties that we've visited. As well as the house, it has extensive grounds, lovely gardens, and a conservatory and historic church to visit. It is good for children, with special activities laid on in summer, and a miniature Railway. It also has one of the largest National Trust bookshops we've seen, as well as the usual shop and café facilities. Grantham itself is a typical market town, with a reasonable range of shops, although like many market towns it has clearly suffered economically. However, the historic area around its magnificent church is lovely. The countryside around Grantham is lovely, and if you like visiting churches (as we do) you are very much spoiled for choice. Sleaford and Heckington were favourites.

We chose this as a suitable place to meet my 98 year old mother travelling from Norfolk. We did not travel round Granthem. IT was a good half way oint though we were very disppointed by the bar meal and the vegatarian options for dinner.

We really enjoyed our trip to Grantham and found there was so much more to do than we first thought. The hotel was central, with the attractions we visited no more than 15 minutes away, including Belton Manor, Belvoir Castle, Easton Walled Gardens. Unfortunately some of the attractions we visited were closed. TIP - check the days attractions are open before you visit. The Blue Plague Trial round Grantham itself was interesting (we missed 3 but found 2 not on the list). Easy walk round Grantham, Belton Manor, and the Walled Gardens, however Belvoir Castle Gardens were a bit more hilly and uneven (but well worth a visit, unfortunately the castle itself was closed due to a private event).

It was worth visiting the church and is definitely a must if you are in the area. Staff in the shops and cafes were very pleasant and helpful. A small retail park is easy to access by walking, eg Next , Matalan, TK Max. Local shops were not always open. The museum, school and art centre were also closed. They only seemed to be open on some days.

From the outside it looks great, there’s a decent amount of parking. The reception is nice and the last on reception was lovely. The location is good and the burgers in the bar are lovely. The young lad and waitress in the bar are really lovely and although they are worked off their feet they had time to chat to everyone whilst serving. Note to managers they are people you need to keep, they make your hotel!

This is one of England's most historic inns - stayed in by Richard III. The restaurant is very atmospheric and then oldest part. Plenty of parking just across the road. Breakfast good, Ideally situated for visiting Grantham, The hotel is good but not as great as The George at Stamford (nearby) see below.

Very attentive friendly staff. Room very comfortable and good facilities. Parking easy and located at the back of hotel. Even though we didn't opt for breakfast, Grantham had plenty of cafes, etc for eating out.

Lovely hotel. Huge and spacious. Very welcoming. A little bit dated and tired but comfortable and reasonable. Will certainly come back. Shame about the restaurant being closed. Thanks
