There were many excellent eateries and pubs in the town and as a chef I loved all the ingredients available in the many Asian convenience stores. But there was nothing else to do. I looked at what to do in Ipswich but everything recommended involved walking in parks, travelling out of Ipswich or wasn’t open midweek. Before coming for the weekend My friend said “I don’t like Ipswich!” Well Ipswich! How you’ve changed her mind! Two hotels, shopping and a Rend Collective gig at the Corn Echange and she is happy to come back. 😊 The Muthu hotel was beautiful and a nice bit of luxury and the Easy hotel is nice and clean, basic but perfect for a night at a gig. Of course there is the football stadium, a very fine sight now that is has been rejuvenated and the two statues of Ramsey and Robson (outside and a reminder that no other club has provided England with two international managers straight from domestic success, one even managed the World Cup winning team) as well as that of Kevin Beattie add to the sense of honour. Beyond that there is the modest but impressive splendour of Christchurch Mansion set in the verdant Christchurch Park, historic buildings like The Ancient House with its characterful pargeting, the much improved dockside area and residents who usually take time to get to know but are worth the effort. Never been before. I'm not a townie / city girl but everyone was friendly. I was very surprised as to how courteous the drivers in Ipswich were compared to other towns / cities. The owner is really friendly and accommodating, the place is spotlessly clean, the facilities are everything I'd need an d more. So much nicer to have more space than just being confined to a hotel room and the little extras such as a pint of milk and a loaf of bread are fantastic. Large room and bathroom, excellent, very helpful friendly front desk staff, more than happy to help carry bags etc as you can't park near the rooms. Very comfy bed, hotel is in a nice green setting. The pool area was nice, the lay out flows well. The bed was very comfortable too. The bottle of water daily was appreciated.
