Been going to Lynmouth for soooo many years (40 in total) it holds many special memories 🙏🏻 we love the quaintness of Lynmouth, and however busy it gets, it never feels too noisy- love the walks, the coffeeshackbythesea, the Esplanade fish & chip shop, the views, the cliff railway which takes you to Lynton’s shops and cafes. I will always need to visit to recharge my batteries a few times a year - a little piece of nostalgia 🙏🏻❤️

A bit of a find. Not a very well known resort.

A bit of a find. Not a very well known resort. The village is on the sea front, as are most of the hotels, and is situated on the mouth of a river which can be followed up via an incredible gorge. There is only a tiny sandy beach - otherwise large stones make the beach unusable. The village is linked to Lynton that can be reached via a cable railway, which is water powered. It is, however, quite expensive to use often. The village is tiny - you can walk from one end to the other in about ten minutes. It ends in a car park which appears to be adequate for the number of visitors. There is also short term parking on the sea front. There are only a few restaurants, although plenty of daytime cafes, and no "useful" shops. Most are gift shops. It is a great place to relax, for walking and just watching the vast expanse of the sea.

Lynmouth is a tipical small north Devonshire town, with friendly people and nice eateries. It's a small port town on the north coast of Devon at the bootom of a gorege. Its main attraction is its small harbour, Esplanade (promenade) and Lyn River. The main thing to do in Lynmouth, is to ride the famous Lynton-Lynmouth Cliff Railway. One of only 3 still operating in the world, it's powers by water and runs between the two villages. Lymmouth has a few shops, several tea rooms/cafes, chip shops and a couple of pubs. Lynton, the village/town at the top of the huge and steep cliff is similar, if slightly bigger. Both towns are connected by bus from Barnstaple, the trip takes roughly an hour. Barnstaple has a train station with train to Exeter, which connects with London and the rest of the UK. Lynmouth is safe and a good place to take children for a day, weekend or holiday.

A stunning place to visit.

A stunning place to visit. Lynmouth has a lovely harbour and beach with shops and restaurants all close by and hotels and self catering accommodation. All are within keeping with the history and location of the town. We used the Cliff Railway to go up to the shops in Lynton and the Valley of the Rocks. And walked along the river to Watersmeet Tea Room run by the National Trust. There's a lovely playground near the harbour for small children and space for the dog to run around and play. A great place for couples, families, little ones and teenagers. But the thing we keep returning for is the trees along the river - just beautiful.

Evrywhere in Lynmouth is uphill.

Evrywhere in Lynmouth is uphill. It tries to retain its historic charm whilst inundated with tourists. The early mornings and evenings in Lynmouth are wonderfully relaxed quiet and totally at variant with the manic day times. The walks along the East Lyn and up to Lynton are incredible but not for the faint hearted. The temperate forest on the sides of the valleys was amazing. I will never forget it.

Don't think we caught this place at the best time, The season was finished so it was very quiet and not much atmosphere, our room was very clean, but it was just very dark as was the whole hotel, The restaurant wasn't open so can't comment on the food, only saw 1 member of staff whilst there, and she was pleasant enough when we arrived, my scores are based on the costs and what we get in other places for similar prices. Bear in mind it is a seasonal seaside village, and most restaurants do not open until later on in the week.

The hotel is perfectly situated for hiking parts of the SW Coast Path. We did three great hikes from the doorstep and didn't use the car the whole time while we stayed here. There is a large choice of breakfast options and the delicious cooked breakfast is freshly made. Very sweet owners which give the stay just that bit of extra. We booked an additional dinner twice during out stay. We recommend it!
