A historic and interesting small town - was a staging post on the Great North Road, hence it's closeness to the current A1. Also on East Coast main railway line so easy access. Free disc parking in town car parks and a good range of shops both national brands and local. Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets quite central. Lovely park with paddling pool and playground with old motte and bailey mound still there. Boating on the river in summer. Small castle but is a private residence. Close to Cragside and Wallington National trust properties and beach at Newbiggin. Northumberland Zoo nearby and well worth a visit with children. The time we arrived, there wasn’t a lot to do or see, as we arrived late in the afternoon. The Main Street had plenty of shops and food take a ways, with some restaurants. Would really have to spend a little more time there to explore.Guest review byWilliam - 4.0

FANTASTIC LOCATION IN A COURTYARD AT THE BACK OF THE HIGH STREET WHICH HAS EVERYTHING NEEDED TO FILL A DAY. THERE IS A WONDERFUL PARK NEARBY WITH A BOATING LAKE, PLAY PARK AND LARGE ROUND OUTDOOR PADDLING POOL, WONDERFUL WALKS AND FACILITIES FOR FAMILIES, LOTS OF EATERYS AND PUBS. NOOKS AND CRANNYS TO EXPLORE AS WELL AS A DIVERSE RANGE OF SHOPS WITH THE LONG ESTABLISHED FAMILY DEPARTMENT STORE BUSINESS OF RUTHERFORDS WITH SMASHING TEA ROOM. I WAS PLEASED TO DISCOVER A WONDERFUL LEISURE CENTRE FACILITY NEARBY WITH POOLS, CHILDRENS PLAY AREA, CAFE AND LIBRARY. Found Morpeth a very clean town, and especially the parking system where you can purchase a disc for £1 and use it as often as you need in different car parks. Found it an excellent idea a nd charities benefit from it. Other towns should follow suit. Lovely upmarket shops as well as the usual ones. Excellent location right in the middle of Morpeth but also tucked away on the quiet of the river. Our toddler loved the toys in the playroom his toy bag never even made it out of the car. Location for Morpeth and the surrounding area is perfect. Walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. The outside decking area was a lovely bonus. The parking permit was also another good point.
