Perfectly located, close to everything that matters. The rooms were outstanding, and what a shower - when you think you’re getting this out of a historical building, it’s really something to highlight. The Quod restaurant is the go-to spot to eat in Oxford and staff was always ready to help. One of the best places I stayed in the UK.

Very nice, traditional English inn just outside Oxford. The accommodation is in a new building out the back of the pub; it has the atmosphere of a converted stable, but seems brand new.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I have visited Oxford many times due to family in the area. I would suggest visiting for a long weekend. Harry Potter fans can visit locations from the films, literature fans can visit the halls some of their favourite authors attended. Shopping, eating out/drinks are all within easy reach of this location.

we did not go into Oxford as we were further out than expected and had other plans for Saturday which going into Oxford from where we were would have been disrupted. I have been to Oxford a number of times and have always enjoyed it, this visit was a little addition to plans we already had. We ate locally in Summertown where there was a great choice of restaurants and eating establishments

It had been a long time since I visited Oxford and much had changed. It was fun to explore some of the better-known places (Ashmolean, of course, as well as one or two of the cottages), as well as lesser known ones (the History of Science Museum -- an unexpectedly delightful gem).
