Stein is a beautiful wild place to visit. Would have loved to have eaten at the Loch Bay Resturant but unfortunately it was closed. Stayed at Stein inn. Disappointed. Over priced accommodation and needs a clean. Full of eclectic junk well past their use-by dates and does not compiment the ancient setting. GOOD: the chef and the food.
GOOD: the chef and the food. BAD: the front of house staff, who provided very very poor service. They were occupied with talking amongst themselves. They repeatedly ignored us and when we got their attention, they were very unhelpful and said they didn't know anything because they were new. It took over twenty minutes to get someone's attention to check in and they tried telling me we hadn't made a booking. I could prove my booking with my phone. They didn't honour our dinner booking, though, after some badgering, we were eventually given a (too) small table twenty minutes after the agreed time. The room: no hot water. The night: staff played loud music til after midnight (well after the restaurant had closed). At breakfast, I had to go looking for someone to place an order, even though we came down at the time we had booked. At first we were a bit worried during our car ride to the location but it was worth it and after a few more drives the road become more and more familiar and it’s actually nice to have such a beautiful and private place to go back to and stay. The location is amazing. Isolated but thats what I liked. You can feel city stress just drain away by the minute. Views amazing, silence at certain times as well was great, so quiet morning and then pace pcisk up as people arrive for drinks and dinner. Food is awesome, fresh seafood. Our room was lovely and tastefully decorated, spotless clean and cosy with a beautiful view. Johnny was a wonderful host, nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed out stay at the inn, and the staff were all wonderful! We brought our own snacks, and enjoyed breakfast and coffee each morning. The staff recommended a lovely 13K hike along the cliffs not far from the inn, which was our favorite part of the trip. A hot shower and a dinner of freshly caught crab at the inn's restaurant was the perfect ending to our day of hiking. We came off season, and enjoyed the peacefulness and mild weather. We would love to return in-season and pop by some other local sights next time. It is easy to get around, as long as directions are loaded in the gps before leaving the inn :) Keep an eye out for potholes on narrow roads after the winter frost!Guest review byEmilyUnited States
