Besides having time with an old friend who lives in Steyning...

Besides having time with an old friend who lives in Steyning, I especially enjoyed walking up onto the Downs (via the Upper Horseshoe trail) and admiring the wonderful view of the Downs and the sea and the Weald of Sussex. I was impressed by the Community Orchard and the conservation scheme to re-establish species-rich chalk grassland. I made good use of the buses - would have been stranded without them! I enjoyed a brief visit to the parish church and was sorry not to have more time to have a good look round the museum. I enjoyed a good meal in an Italian restaurant near the Clock Tower.

As a local lad, born in Brighton I already knew the area, so had no need to visit castle or surrounding area. Steyning is a nice safe area to visit and the South Downs and the seaside towns are close by.

Steyning is nice, but this hotel is actually in Bramber.

Steyning is nice, but this hotel is actually in Bramber. Bramber is about 20 mins walk from Steyning. Bramber is a lovely village with 2 pubs,a pharmacy and a newsagent/general store. The castle remains are right opposite the hotel. There is access to the river Adur from the village. St Mary's House is a few minutes walk away and is lovely to visit.

Steyning itself a short drive from our hotel.

Steyning itself a short drive from our hotel. We visited the Parish Church , and the Museum both are worth some time spent. The High street was very crowded, as there was a market open in main car park. Perhaps may have visited a different day, as need disabled parking facility, and had a long stroll from outside the church.

Mae, Steve & all the staff at The Crown Inn Hotel offer excellent service & are very friendly. Great food with a good selection Unexpected bonus to our visit was venue had a Abba tribute night which was great fun, pub was packed & people up dancing . These are held the last Friday of the month. Accommodation was a bit tired & dated but was clean & had everything needed for a short stay, Neighbourhood is quiet but right on South Down trail so busy with walkers & bike riders. Bramber ruins is worth a look, has nice views of South Downs

I only used the hotel as I only wanted an overnight stay. I had a 4hr drive to attend a reunion in Brighton, and a similar distance to drive the following day. Did not explore Steyning as being a local, born in Brighton, already knew the charm and attraction of the old country town.

Family run and the delightful owner and her son were absolutely lovely, so friendly and interesting. My room was pristine and very comfortable, I wanted to stay for longer, it was so calm and pleasant. A shame there is no breakfast, but Steyning has loads of places that offer it. and I was aware of the situation when I booked. I have known this hotel for 50 years and stayed there often over the years - it has been upgraded relatively recently in a sympathetic way.

It was a delight to stay in the peaceful, private and immaculately clean Shepherd's Hut. It's a unique experience to be tucked away in the village of Steyning, looking out onto a beautiful garden and as for the interiors, so comfortable and luxurious. James and Sarah were very welcoming and sent all the helpful info needed to make the stay seamless. They also catered to my dietary preferences, which was much appreciated. I would love to come back again. Thank you!

Comfortable spacious room in attractive old building in a charming small village, with easy access to the area round Brighton. It is an old building with character that includes typically squeaking floor boards and occasionally noisy plumbing. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Parking was available behind the hotel, but was also very convenient, with both a vehicle and trailer, in the public carpark opposite.

We stayed in Combe Cottage which is in a very private, quiet location (we didn't hear a sound all week). Absolutely loved it! It's a great size and has great facilities: the kitchen had everything we needed and much more besides. The bed was huge and extremely comfy. We also really liked Steyning. A lovely town with great local shops and plenty to see. Would definitely return if we're in the area again.
