Absolutely first class service, we were leaving early and the lassie that checked us in, (think she was the owner) made us a packed lunch cos we’d left too early for breakfast. Best packed lunch and well prepared even down to the Prawn Cocktail crisps 😊 nice touch. Would have no hesitation recommending the Craignelder Hotel and I’ll definitely be back.

Room was very comfortable and well appointed; TV needed a wee bit of attention but then worked perfectly (previous guest had been fiddling with it!); breakfast was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have enjoyed when staying away from home - freshly cooked to order and very tasty! Stranraer is an interesting place to visit. Parts of it have got very run down but you can see they are trying to improve the town. We spent a lovey day following the Town Centre trail we got from the Tourist Office.

Good base for touring the Galloway Coast, which is spectacular. Stranraer doesn't have a lot of ammenities for tourists, but is interesting for a walk about. Best Guest House ? Neptunes Rest. Family run, spotless, can't do enough for you. AW

There's almost zero reason to visit Stranraer itself; no ferries run from here now. I found one decent shop of interest, the little museam was ok and free. The proximity to the mull of galloway and the rhins was my reason for staying. The accomodation choice was not great, but Royal Hotel was the best option

Stranraer is a little rundown after its fortunes were affected by the relocation of the ferry along the road to Cairnryan. Much of the harbour is run down with tatty parking bays for ferry vehicles. However there are hidden gems, the swan lido and park by the water, an ACTUAL tourist information office, helpful public library. Decent if rather retro restaurants - Chinese, pizza oven. Museum and castle to visit although check opening hours.

Room was beautifully clean and fresh - even from the hallway it smelt fresh! Really easy check-in process, staff were super friendly towards our dog, and lovely well-lit park & seaside promenade walk across the road for a stroll after a long drive. Great location only 10-15mins drive from Cairnryan ferry ports, but surprisingly not too much freight truck noise overnight (as we've experienced near other ports).

The nearness to the ferry port. It was a mix of old fashioned hotel styling. You can see the changes being made. The food in the restaurant at dinner was very good. Beautiful prawn cocktail, hubby said he’d settle for 2 as main course. The setting and definately old school, all tables well dressed with all place settings and linens. Service superb.

The location was brilliant for easy access to ferry port. The owner was very friendly and helpful with regards to suggesting a nearby pub that served an excellent meal and at a reasonable price. Hopefully we will use this b& b again when we travel to Ireland. Lovely breakfast.

Sandy was there to meet us and was really friendly. The rooms were basic but perfectly good. We were there to watch the football and have a 'few' beers and it was a perfect place to crash, near to the town centre with the pubs and restaurants.
