The building is charmingly old and was renovated a year ago and looks great and modern ! Our family room (3 and 4) was big and very nice. The people working here are very nice and friendly. The manager works here from 1975 !

Great little place if you want to stay a night after a big...

Great little place if you want to stay a night after a big walk very cozy and comfortable the weather wasn’t amazing when we were there but added to the cosiness, of the little Shepherds hut hearing the rain outside had a great time. Would stay again.

Gateway to both the Northern and Southern lakes. A lot of good restaurants in the general area, but book early if in a large group . Hoards of people so visit important places early e.g. Castlerigg stone circle is MUCH better if you're the only group there. You can feel its 4500 years age. Book steam ferries before you go otherwise availability might be low. Ask prices at tea rooms before buying. We paid £33 for seven teas/coffees.

Fantastic location Beautifully traditional hotel feel. The hotel reception area, restaurant was very beautiful, cosy, comfortable, cottage feel. Everything you would want in a hotel in the Lake District (if you don't mind it not being a large, spa hotel vibe anyway) Friendly staff. Bed was fantastic Shower was fantastic( but no shampoo or body wash) Room was very nicely decorated, cosy and clean!!! LOVELY BED!! Great pillows! Cosy bed.

Modern hotel close to Thirlmere reservoir. Easy to access by bus. Just a few minute walk from the trails that go around the reservoir. Our room was clean and warm. Wi-Fi worked well. Staff were nice. They kept our bags for a few hours before check-in and upgraded our room. Breakfast was very good. OK value for money.

The place has an amazing climate — truly authentic British, just like in the photos. You can even watch fighter jets flying over during the LFA17, which passes right above the hotel.
