Andy, Debbie, Lauren, and Paula were extremely welcoming. I had flown from Florida to Manchester and had driven all day in bad fog with jet leg. What a beautiful destination the Penny Hedge was. Excellent range of well-kept beers, great evening menu, excellent full English breakfast, clean rooms - slept 10 hours. What a positive asset to Whitby. I would stay here every time !!

The most unusual place we have ever stayed in, in the best way possible. Absolutely perfect for the area and the Whitby vibe. Quirky doesn't even come close! The lovely staff and the perfect attention to detail, the fabulous breakfast in bedroom service, the views of the Abbey and bay. I could go on but you need to experience it for yourself to be able to get the awe of the place. I would say though open the desk if you are in the Lewis room, cheeky! The bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed in! Like a cocoon. The big deep bathtub was glorious. Thank you so much for our last minute booking, we were blown away by the whole experience. If we come back to Whitby it will only happen if we can book with you.

Great place for coastal walks and trying local beers.

Great place for coastal walks and trying local beers. Plenty of history regarding Captain Cook, and the Dracula legend. The beach looks like it would be great in summer, we visited off season so all we did was walk along it. It looks like there would be plenty of sightseeing trips by boat, and fishing trips, available in summer. There is a great variety of restaurants, pubs, and smaller hotels, which should cater for most tastes. The emphasis is on fish dishes, and local beers and gins. There's no need for a car around town, but it is hilly. Bring decent walking shoes!

Whitby is a lovely place to visit with lovely old streets and shops to explore, lovely harbour and great views from the abbey. There’s lots of places to eat and some great little old pubs to enjoy a drink, there’s some lovely places to visit quite near to Whitby including Sands-end, Staithes and Robin hood’s bay

    Check other feedback regarding cleaning.

Check other feedback regarding cleaning. We arrived to find a lovely place however let down by very poor cleaning dead fly's on window cils didn't think to much about it until we went outside and found a glass jar full of cigarettes ends left right next to the door. But to top it off there were dog poo bags witch had been left full of poo between the door step and drain cover which might of explained the dead fly's in the house as there was a half inch gap at the bottom of the kitchen door see pictures. I have emailed host and stay to bring it to there attention but received no refund or explanation. There is no secure garden for pets so be aware of that. So for £380 for 2 nights which was reduced I think it was very over priced. Check pics discusting. I forgot to mention dog poo in yard not picked up which I stood in. Not good

My wife and I have strong connections with Whitby, it is a beautiful place to visit and we go as often as we can. Whitby is the only remaining TRUE seaside resort left in the north, all the rest are run down and violent places. Whitby is well looked after and is always clean. Our favourite place to visit...

The history of Whitby is so interesting.

The history of Whitby is so interesting. The medieval buildings, coastline and port are all stunning. The small narrow streets and shops. Absolutely beautiful. Easy to get to other places from Whitby. The North Yorkshire Moors, Robin Hoods bay and many more. Definitely need another visit. Coastliner bus amazing!

There are great views over the harbour and the Abbey from the West Cliff by Captain Cook's Monument. The 199 steps up to the Abbey may be a challenge for some but well worth the climb to see the Abbey at the top and then get the views back over the town from that side. There is a beach and at low tide you can walk to the village of Sandsend and back, probably about a 3.5 mile round trip along this lovely sandy stretch of beach. Whitby is full of cafes, pubs and the famous black jet jewellery shops as well as lovely gift shops, the museum and of course the various fish n chip restaurants. The town gets very crowded at weekends and in high season, the car parks also get full but there is park and ride. There is something for everyone and for those who like the sea, there are regular boat trips from the harbour.

Just perfect, the whole staff team made our visit. Everybody was so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Special mention to Karl who was excellent in the bar. Excellent location for travelling between Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay with the bus stop opposite of the hotel. Had a lovely.meal in the hotel bar on our second night....food was lovely and great value for money. Breakfast was great, with a mix of continental and cooked breakfast options. A very enjoyable stay, we wouldn't hesitate to re book.

We really liked the location of the hotel and the facilities of the hotel such as having the pub downstairs and being able to take our dog. The scenery was great around the hotel and it’s just across from the Whitby park and ride which also allows dogs so it’s a really dog friendly place and really accessible. Great parking. Food was really good and staff were super friendly and helpful.
