Wigton is a typical traditional Cumbrian town with shops, cafes and a couple of Supermarkets. It is ideally located for access to the Solway Coast and an easy drive on uncongested roads to the Lake District and also the City of Carlisle.

I didn’t explore Wigton as my purpose was to hike the Wainwrights but it seemed quiet and nothing to complain about. I did find it a bit far from the mountains I wanted to climb but that wasn’t too big of a problem as the price was great!

The area is a great location for visiting the wider lake district. It is close to trunk roads and motorways so your exploring can cover a wider area. There is plenty to do in both England and Scotland from this location.

There were no public toilets available and we only walked quickly round before leaving to go back to our B&B. Seemed a busy place with quite a few shops. We stayed at a B&B at a distance from Wigton. The surrounding area suited us for walking and visiting the coast and the lakes.

I loved the amazing country surroundings and it was nice to sleep where you were not woken up by banging doors, as in Hotel corridors. Loved the roundhouse and the quirky architecture reminded be of a Hobbit House. I made a note to put down small portion for the Full English breakfast as i didn't want to waste any food, it was lovely and so much to choose from.

We were lucky enough to have room No 1, a spacious and grand room with lovely views and full of "old world" quality features. We decided to stay and have our evening meal in the hotel and we were treated to a 3 course meal that ranked as one of the best meals we have ever had. Thank you . Joe & Ann, from Ireland.

The room was very comfortable indeed with a good mattress and comfy pillows. The bathroom had been recently refurbished and was impeccable. I had a very good sleep. Dave the host did his utmost to make my stay enjoyable. This hotel is ideally located for flying activities at Kirkbride Airfield.

Self-catering useful. Quirky house - ideal situation for us as rest of group staying in hotel in Caldbeck. We appreciated a one-night booking as we walked to the next overnight stop in Carlisle with our group.
