We had a wonderful stay in this lovely guesthouse with a very kind and welcoming family. The hosts were always in touch via WhatsApp and made sure we had everything we needed. Since the house is a bit off the main hiking trail, they picked us up by car when we arrived and brought us back to the trail the next day — free of charge. We had an excellent, generous dinner with chacha and wine, and a delicious breakfast the next morning. Elos also helped us the following evening by driving all the way to Ushguli to pick us up and take us back to Mestia for 50 GEL (оn the way, he even treated us to ice cream and lemonade). Thanks to this, we could leave our backpacks in his car for the day and hike the final stage from Iprari to Ushguli with just light daypacks — which made a big difference! Highly recommended — we felt truly taken care of.

Everything was perfect; the rooms were clean, location is convenient (away from the sound of construction and very close to the Lamaria Church and Etnographic Museum), food was superb. It was the best breakfast and dinner I had in Georgia; I was served Kubdari, Khacapuri, different types of local cheeses, perfectly grilled potato with tkemali sauce, a type of taps with eggplant, fruits and lots more. As a cherry on top, they helped me to find a transportation back to Mestia at a fair cost. If I visit Ushguli again, I will definitely stay in this guesthouse.

Without doubt it was the best food we have encountered during our hike from Mestia to Usghuli. The hosts are really friendly and helpful - although we didn't speak Russian, communication wasn't a problem (in case of need, hostess daughter can speak English). Georgian hospitality at its best! Can only recommend.

Raul is a darling man: very friendly and adept at using Google translate to communicate. The buildings in his little compound are interesting and old, complete with a crumbling Svan tower (which made for an awesome view out my bedroom window). The dining area is an atmospheric museum, with access to a large balcony overlooking the river. A lovely spread of delicious food was provided for dinner and again for breakfast (the fresh raspberry jam on pancakes was wonderful). If you ask, Raul might show you inside the ancient chapel on the grounds, and another sweet man on the property would be more than happy to show off his quartz collection if you take an interest. There's a monastary up on the mountain overlooking the guesthouse if you care to add on a day hike.  The extra walk to get there is worth it, but you should be aware that (if you're doing the Mestia to Ushguli hike) this place is a 15 minute walk down the road from Lalkhori (it's in Khe). Some instructions for getting there if you're hiking: From Iprali, take the windy road down to the valley to Lalkhori (you'll have to do this for the hike, it just adds it to your arrival day instead of departure) then hike 15 minutes west down the main road to Khe. DON'T take the hiking trail directly to the west of Iprali (you need to ford a creek and it's utterly overgrown with stinging plants around the Agrai ruins - you CAN make it this way, according to another guest, but it's bushwacking with no trail). There is another trail closer to the road (at the Raul sign), but I didn't try that one.
