FAQs about hotels in Heraklio Town

The Cradle of Minoan Civilisation

Nowadays known as the capital of the Greek island of Crete, Heraklion was once the centre of the Minoan civilisation and the port of the ancient Knossos. This stunning gem features rich history, outdoor markets and important archaeological sites.

Just 6 km from the lively Heraklion is the world-renown ruins of the Knossos palace, where according to the Greek mythology Daedalus built a labyrinth to hold the Minotaur.

Home to the 16th-century church of Agia Ekaterini, the cathedral of St. Minas, Venetian Loggia and the Archaeological Museum, this destination is much more than just a cosmopolitan city with vibrant nightlife. Do not forget to wander around the old port or visit the Venetian Walls.

Beach lovers can discover some of the most popular places of Crete like the tourist resorts of Malia and Hersonissos, the golden beach of Amoudara and the fishing village of Agia Pelagia.

The international airport of Heraklion, Nikos Kazantzakis, is the largest one in the island and the second busiest in Greece. Situated about 4 km from the city centre, it offers seasonal flights to Vienna, Barcelona, Zurich and St. Petersburg. Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels in Heraklion.

The town was buzzing and full of life.

The town was buzzing and full of life. Some excellent restaurants (peskesi a stand out) Beaches were stunning especially when blessed with perfect summer weather. BUT, the traffic is terrible, parking is difficult, road-rules are optional and the lane-ways are very narrow. Visiting Knossos is an absolute must.

    Heraklio was beautiful.

Heraklio was beautiful. The archeological museum is incredible. The history musuem is likewise. The underpopularized The Museum of Ancient Technology was faciinating.......The city is a fine landing place to Crete and offers much more on its own, however we found the graffiti to be overwhelming. I do not believe the slander of it to reflective of the intellegence of the residents of the city - from my interactions. Moreover the beauty of the archetecture is marred by the slander perpetrated. I can only think that the building owners are overwhelmed by the constant repainting required. Hate speech is not free speech but rather incitement.

It's an amazing trip experience that combines both the sea side stuff and the full comfort of a city. You can find small beaches along the shore, and a large embankment right across the venetian port that is perfect for evening walks (it has approx.. 2,4 km in length). There are also a lot of restaurants and bars you can hop into. I would dearly recommend Peskesi, Petousis, Sir Papafigos, Parasties for food, Take five or Toucan Skybar for drinks, but there are a lot more that are waiting to be discovered. Also the museums are a must, and of course the nearby site of Knossos. Another close by attraction you shouldn't miss is the Cretaquarium.

Iraklio has a lot of small good restaurants, serving the local food. It looks bigger than it is, because there is such life, and many shops. Its not a city with many sights, so you have to be prepared to take some small trips på Knossos, Archanes, the lashiki plateau, a local beach and so on. We “had to” stay for 7 days, because of our flights, and that was 1-2 days too much. But that was due to us, and not the city.

Its a beautiful old city with plenty to do and see for a short stay. Within 3 days I got to know the old city, wander the streets, shop, visit museums, and eat delicious local cuisine. Our only trip out of town was Knossos. If I was staying longer I would visit beaches and Spinalonga Island. A wonderful little town. Dinner at Peskesi was a highlight of my trip, probably the best restaurant during our 2 week trip across Greece.

The most lovely part of my trip to Greece was staying here. The staff were super friendly and helpful (and funny!) and the hotel is just beautiful. Getting to stay in Domus Ariadne in Crete feels like a dream come true. The hotel is small but perfect, and has a beautiful artistic history. Even the rooms are named after different colours! The location is very good, just a few steps from the port, and it's around the corner from the incredible Archaeological Museum. I look forward to visiting again, it was just a lovely place to be.

This hotel is a gem. It is not a beach hotel, but is located very convienently for a visit to Heraklion and departure by ferry. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The breakfast is varied, with regional items to make you feel you are really in Greece, but specifically on the Island of Crete. The room I was assigned surprised me and really went beyond what I was expected. I have stayed in this hotel now for the fourth time and every time it gets better and better.

The hotel and room itself were nice, clean and provided everything you need for relaxed stay. We chose this accomodation for 1 night to be able to leave comfortably for the airport after Crete holidays. As we travelled with a child, it was pleasant that the room was ready a bit sooner than expected. The rooftop swimming pool with Heraklion view is beautiful and you can enjoy your meals and drinks. Taxi service was very good and quick, too.

The location of the property is amazing. You are surrounded by great cafes and shops. And in a quiet area. The city centre is just a few minutes by foot. The staff is friendly, welcoming and always helpful. Rooms are beautiful, modern and clean. The bed is super comfortable. One of the best hotels not just in Crete, but in Europe.

To be honest I didn’t get the bad reviews, the hotel is well placed, extremely clean and well ran. yes, the rooms are small but refurbished with everything you need, including AC and fridge. I had a very nice stay and I definitely recommend. it’s not the 5* all inclusive type, more of a city hotel with a nice charm
