There's a wonderful view and sunset at Verga, a beautiful bar called Kastraki, you should definitely visit! We stayed in Kalamata only for two nights (Sunday and Monday) so there was not a lot of action, but there were plenty of restaurants, bars, and people enjoying the nice weather. Everyone was very friendly and the town was clean and felt safe to walk around at night. We really liked it. Unfortunately we did not visit any cultural or historic places. We spent the day at Agios Beach (30 minutes away), which is a sandy long beach, with plenty of activities for kids and nice umbrellas and lounge chairs to rest, and a nice simple restaurant by the water.Guest review byMarielaUnited States - 10.0

Kalamata is an absolutely beautiful city that truly offers the best of both worlds — stunning beaches and a vibrant city atmosphere. One of the highlights for me was the beachfront restaurants that offer sun loungers, allowing you to enjoy delicious food and drinks right by the sea. It's the perfect spot to relax and take in the view. The old town is a gem — full of character, with traditional architecture and a genuine sense of authentic Greece. It hasn’t lost its local charm, which makes strolling through its streets feel like stepping back in time. Kalamata strikes a wonderful balance between relaxation and culture. What a great town!
What a great town! Easy to get around on foot, and the old town has so much character. A foodie city, for sure. A typical day for us was a leisurely breakfast with great coffee, followed by a few hours at the beach. A nap during the hot part of the afternoon is essential…don’t skip it. Then out for drinks and dinner in the old town. Repeat as necessary… There wasn’t a “touristy” feel here at all, we didn’t get upsold or hustled. Kalamata is a wonderful, quiet city with very friendly people. It’s much more relaxed and less crowded than Athens, with plenty to explore both along the beautiful seashore and in the nearby mountains. The mountain villages are especially charming. The location was perfect: just far enough from downtown to be a little quieter, also easy free and safe parking in the surrounding streets (but you can reserve a parking spot in the hotel garage if you're more comfortable). And downtown was only 5-10 min walk away, so we could easily get back and forth. The apartment was very comfortable and clean, the bakery around the corner was so nice for easy coffee/breakfast, a handy supermarket also just 3 min walk. They are here to assist you everytime you need something. Hotel has a good location - supermarket, port, beach, bus station and many bars, restaurants and coffees nearby.
