If you stay away from the restaurants with a view, you can see a big difference in the prices if you go a street or two below for the same food. Bring runners with you as you will do alot of walking and the paths are not great so no heels. Fira is a great town full of varied shops and fantastic places to eat. It can be expensive so plan a little extra money for food though! There are plenty of things to do an see in the town and the public transport to other areas of the island are quite frequent and cheap. Despite being after peak season it was crowded, noisy, traffic jams quite frequent and pricey. We returned after 20 years to discover that it’s not a place for vacation any more. You have to be prepared for what is a very hilly town. The worse times are when the cruise ships arrive, that’s when it’s worth visiting other parts of Santorini. Fira is a fun place to stay - it does get busy when the cruise ships are in, but not nearly as packed as Oia. It's still got great views and is photo worthy - although not quite as stunning as Oia. HOWEVER it's amazingly place for exploring the island - taxis are very expensive on Santorini, so being able to take the cheap and reliable busses from the main bus station in Fira to get to key places around the island was a really cost effective and efficient way to get around.Guest review bySamanthaUnited Kingdom
