A perfectly decorated and cared for small hotel we were looking for, away from the noisy center of Ubud. A shuttle service is offered to get downtown. Yuri, in reception, was exceptionally helpful and kind. She was able to find solutions and options to fit our needs. Also, our driver, Ketut, went above and beyond as a skilled driver and well-informed guide in English as well. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Outstanding breakfast, comfortable beds, wonderful massages, and tastefully decorated hotel.

FAQs about hotels in Ubud

Bali's Peaceful Retreat

If you are seeking a hideaway from Bali’s chaotic Kuta, Ubud provides a welcome respite with its secluded paths, calming temples and specialised spa resorts. Surrounded by rice paddies, coconut trees and lush forests of green, Ubud is seen as the cultural centre of Bali.

The road leading up to Ubud features little villages specialising in handicrafts like Celuk (silver jewellery), Batuan (paintings) and Mas (wood carvings). Ubud, itself, produces all sorts of handicrafts in its peaceful foothills. There are also numerous art galleries, workshops and courses on offer for the budding artist.

The Monkey Forest is a popular tourist drawcard with its ravenous monkey population lunging at anything resembling food. The 9th-century Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, showcases the island’s historic past and there is the regular Ubud Market for modern-day souvenir hunters.

Ubud is a place for relaxation and many yoga and meditation centres have developed over the years on Indonesia’s most popular island. Booking.com offers a range of guest houses, villas, bungalows and world-class resorts with spa facilities or pool.

The peaceful Ubud of old has gone, and the artistic centre...

The peaceful Ubud of old has gone, and the artistic centre of Bali, is but a memory!! Regrettably, the Seminyak/Canggu crowd have discovered it, and traffic is terrible, with Jalan Monkey Forest a wall of cars and motorbikes in the evenings. The corner of Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Rays rivals the Ginza in Tokyo for crowds!! The main roads from the south, and to Tegalalang, are frequently car parks, with no movement for extended periods. The early morning market along Jln Raya, opposite the palace, is worth a visit, but it's all gone by about 0900, so be early. Restaurants are plentiful, generally good, although I haven't eaten at them all, and probably the best area for concenrated restaurants, is Jln Goutama, also known as Eat Street. I go there for nostalgic reasons, having first visited in 1979, but nowadays stay only one night enroute north coast to Kuta via Kintamani. I do recommend Fair Warung Bale, #6 Jln Sri Wedari, a five minute walk from the palace, as a place to eat. The food is good, great staff, and the reason for their being is that all profits go to providing medical services to the poor!! I eat there at least once every visit.

Ubud has serious traffic congestion and crossing the road becomes a practiced art. Pavements are a real problem as they are narrow and badly broken up, tripping hazards are commonplace. The roadside kerbing is much higher than normal so for anyone struggling with any type of walking disability, beware. Basically there are just too many tourists and day trippers which makes for even more traffic and crowding. Feels like I should have come here 25 years ago and would have found a completely different vibe. Taxi journey to and from the airport took two and a half hours through stop-start heavy traffic and a million scooters.

The area was too busy for us, maybe because we stayed right in the centre of ubud although it’s very convenient to reach places we want to visit. But people are lovely. A lots of unforgettable cultures performances and events and we felt safe. Our Bali Dinner experience at SUN SUN WAROENG was excellent and would definitely going back to visit again.

Traffic in Ubud is worse towards the evening, Govt really should plan for any bye-pass to those travellers who are passing through only. We had food in few places where veg food was available. Getting around by Bike Taxi is the best way and it should be promoted actively by Govt. Visited Tirtha Empul temple, and next time would plan for Mt Batur. Monkey forest is waste of time but gain good amount of Oxygen. Balinese house visit is typical, some knowledge gain and some money drain to buy / drink the coffee. Swing / rice terrace is good photo opportunities, but if you have vertigo issues, knee issues, then just stay put at the top and have some snacks/juices.

Ubud is a truly enchanting destination that captures the heart of Bali’s culture and natural beauty. Surrounded by lush rice terraces and tropical forests, it offers a perfect balance of tranquility and vibrancy. The local people are warm, welcoming, and deeply connected to their traditions, making every encounter feel genuine. The food scene is exceptional, from authentic Balinese dishes to creative modern cuisine, reflecting the area’s rich cultural roots. Wahooo effect guaranteed! The Maya villa is a beautiful villa, very well maintained, with a superb view of the rice fields. It offers beautiful volumes while keeping an intimate side. The welcome was just perfect!!! A big thank you to Iluh for her smile and kindness: she was able to meet all our expectations and even more!! A big thank you also to Komang who prepared us every morning the best banana pancake we have ever eaten! So ... do not hesitate to stay in this villa with private pool ... you will not be disappointed

Beautiful grounds the gardens are immaculate, we stayed in a suite with a private pool which was lovely. The communal pool is stunning & very quiet . Breakfast is made to order and was excellent everyday & all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We used the hotels free a shuttle into Ubud Centre a few times ( which is about 5-10 mins by car ) and we also got a taxi on a few occasions and the prices were cheap. Would definitely stay again -loved it .
