Downings had a great ice cream shop.
Downings had a great ice cream shop. We loved shopping at McNutt's where we bought gorgeous wool items and linen napkins. The beach is accessible right in the middle of the village. You can drive onto the beach and park while you swim. The water was so clean and 16 degrees, which was warmer than the sea water off Dublin. The Galley is a great place for lunch. It’s a great location.

there are beautiful beach walks in the area but it takes some driving to get to them. It is a major golfing destination so very good for that. We are not golfers. We had a good time there with good beach walks. It is a remote area. We would have no reason to return.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough...
The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough to Glenveagh National Park, Fanad lighthouse (via Harry Blaney Bridge) and Inishowen Peninsula (via ferry from Rathmullan) Ards Forest Park (and Friary) only 20 mins away is well worth a visit, the coastal walk from Friary leads to the most spectacular secluded beaches There are two wonderful beaches, Tra Beag in the town and Tra Mor just outside. Plenty of places to eat with two hotels in the village, plus Fisks for Sea food, The Galley for Gourmet Burgers, Goose and Gander for Pizza, as well as the Singing Pub just outside the village (Steak on the Stone)Guest review byTony HumphreysIreland

There was a lovely basket of food and drink items on our arrival (some of which we didn't even manage to get through in 3 days!) which was a lovely touch. The cottage is a 4-5 minute drive into Downings and staying in the summer the curtains were very good which given it's light from c5am-11pm made a significant difference!Guest review byScottUnited Kingdom
