I went there for religious purpose and it was beyond my expectations. However, in terms of cleanliness the city isn't known for that and the beggars can be a nuisance. Velankanni is a Christian pilgrimage centre. Millions come here every year and the church and the local governing bodies benefit from this. However, the facilities are limited and there are no proper hygienic facilities, foot path, clean drinking water etc. Church could spend a part of their offerings for the upliftment of the surroundings and the people living around.
