FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

We really enjoyed our short visit to Bologna - our first time there. It's a fascinating city - lively, vibrant and friendly. There is a wealth of cultural attractions (especially MAMb0 the modern art museum) and plenty of reasonably priced but good places to eat and drink. It does attract quite a lot of tourists but they don't overwhelm the city, unlike Venice and Florence. It feels like a lived-in city but one that welcomes visitors. We will definitely return.

Bologna is very walkable with incredibly beautiful porticos and parks. San Luca was interesting. The many street markets offer a variety of things to see and taste. The many districts of the city are also fun to visit.saragozza, the ghetto, Cirenaia, Giardini Marguerite….. And the train station is close for travel to other places. Love Bologna!

Bologna is a city that may not immediately draw you in with its aesthetic. It has a charm that you have to get to know, and gastronomically, it's still unbearable for me. It is small enough to walk anywhere close or within the walls, and has plenty of green space outside the walls to explore via car, bike, or bus. The food is yummy pretty much anywhere you go, with some places blowing your mind. All in all, worth a 3-day visit.

It's a fascinating and beautiful city - at least in the old, central part of town where we stayed. Great ambiance, great art, great architecture, great ancient University. Walking around the old city is easy. The ancient market area was really fun. We enjoyed the dissection theater of the ancient University medical school.

We have done a lot of travelling in Italy and when we decided to stay in one place for a month we choose Bologna. Plenty to do in the city, the food...oh the food and the location for doing day trips to Parma, Modena, Ravenna, Ferrara is so easy. Being a university town it has vibrant energy, highly recommended.

Bologna is a complex city with a large historic center.

Bologna is a complex city with a large historic center. We have been there 3 times. We did not enjoy the 1st 2 visits. Simply put, we didn't spend enough time wandering through town. It's best experienced by strolling thorough various neighborhoods. We walked through the Quadrilatero, University, Piazza Maggiore, and San Stefano. We liked Bologna's little Venice. Bologna is filled with restaurants, Trattorias, Osterias, bars and specialty shops. One recommendation: on the weekend, you must absolutely get reservations for the more popular restaurants or you aren't getting in.

Everything was PERFECT! The room was perfect. Big and clean room, comfortable bed, good quality towels, good quality shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom We moved here from a 4-star hotel , and this room was much nicer to stay than the 4 stars hotel. We also enjoyed a tasty Italian dinner at the owner restaurant. The room is located in a central area of Bologna and is perfect to enjoy the beauty of the old city in a short visit. Paula, the owner, is a wonderful, interesting, and kindly woman. She helped us order a taxi to the airport.

I book the Almarossa whenever there is availability when I go to Bologna. I like the apartments, I like the location, I like the staff at reception. There is a handy laundry room, public transportation, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants and shops nearby. All places of touristic interest are within walking distance, and the university quarters are nearby. Central station is also reachable on foot. I will continue booking this hotel when available on my futures trips to Bologna, because I feel at home and comfortable here.

Apartment is in the west of the city, 20 mins walk to the centre and 20 mins to the train station. It is close by to a fun street of bars and restaurants, yet in a quiet location. Bologna are installing a new tram, so being central is noisier/dusty. Coffee pods, small cakes and some drinks kindly provided. Very clean, on first floor and has balcony. Do not use the marconi express train from airport (see online reviews). Bused run from airport to the ring road to the west of city, which is 15 mins walk from apartment.

It’s worth the money for short stays. It is a modern, funky 3 star hotel part of the UNA group. Very well located for travellers across from Bologna Centrale. Young, helpful staff with good English. Room was large and very quiet with fresh air as one could leave the window open. The breakfast was adequate and the staff were responsive if there was anything not working or needing to be addressed. The staff was also helpful in providing suggestions and any other information you may require.

The hotel is located in the northern part of the city centre, a 12-minute walk from Bologna Centrale station. It is only minutes away from rerstaurants, cafes, and the main porticoed street, Via Independenza. When I reported certain problems with the room I was given initially (air conditioner and safety deposit box didn't work), I was immediately offered a choice of two other rooms which were fine. There is an elevator to reach the six floors. Reception staff were very friendly.
