On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.
On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. Catania can come off to some as being unrefined and gritty due to the great amount of grafitti present. . In my opinion, I find Catania real and authenic with much to see and do and enjoy. We are so glad we visited Catania. There are many residential areas right in the city centre. The Baroque architecture is wonderful. We had a day exploring on our own, before we joined a guided walking tour, which was excellent and so informative. We visited some nice restaurants and shops. First visit. Will be returning for longer at the end of our trip. Vibrant Catania very quirky, which I like, people, polite, friendly and want to help, food lovely.
