First time visiting Domodossola.
First time visiting Domodossola. We used it as a base for heading out on hikes and we took the "Centovalli" train to Locarno in Switzerland. The centre of the old town is really charming. It is a peaceful town, not a lot of tourists. We found it very restful. Have heard that it is really beautiful in the autumn as well so we are considering going back. There are also a lot of very nice small towns and villages in easy driving distance, not to mention a number of lakes (including Lago Maggiore).Guest review byCas29Italy - 8.0

Unfortunately my stay in Domondossola was just an overnight one en route the Adriatic coast. I know a little of the town though and it has a long history, so for a visitor with time to spend digging about, there are a lot of interesting buildings and plenty of cafes hidden here and there ... Very interesting and pleasing small northern Italian town. Make sure you have a drink in the market square. There was an excellent outdoor wind-band music performance in a nearby square one evening. The historic piazza Mercato and the area there(just round the cornner and ?100 m down a shopping street) was wonderful. Modern services with cafes/restaurants and interesting shops made up the perimeter of the piazza . Despite its comfort and accommodation of modern details the historic atmosphere and authenticity wasn't compromised. There was a fabulous bookshop (for almost any subject I think) but brilliant for alpinism/alpine history.
