Once a capital of the Western Roman Empire, Ravenna is a walker’s paradise and is home to several historical landmarks, magnificent mosaics, great fashion outlets, and charming streets lined with cafés, restaurants and bars.
Piazza del Popolo is considered the heart of Ravenna and was historically the civil and administrative centre of the city. It features the 15th-century Palazzetto Veneziano, the 17th-century Palazzo Comunale, and the 18th-century clock tower.
The most popular landmarks in the city are San Vitale, Mausoleo di Galla Placida, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Dante Alighieri’s Tomb, whilst the Cervia Thermal Baths and Mirabilandia theme park are great options for a day trip.

Could not reach out to cancel. This turned out to be a horrible 2 day vacation. I work 7 days a week. Also, another big issue. After you’re done filling out all the forms and pay, they slip in oh, you have to pay $20.00 to park your car. That’s just plain dirty. Afraid that we'd miss the essence of the town in just a two-day stay, we booked a private guided tour with Franceso Antonelli, which was fantastic as in just three hours gave us the history and showed us some of the UNESCO sites. Very knowledgeable and accomodating bringing the history to life. He also does Bologna and Modena tours. Ravenna is a real gem.
Ravenna is a real gem. Charming, largely car-free streets in the old city with great architecture and inviting squares. So much to see apart from the incredible mosaics. We especially enjoyed the Byron Museum and the Museo del Risorgimento. Alas, didn't have time for the Dante Museum. Also took in some short classical music performances in beautiful venues - i.e. a church and a theatre. The food was also excellent. We were joining a cruise in Ravenna and after looking at details of the City decided to add extra nights to our holiday. The location was was only a 10min walk from the railway station but also within walking distance of the attractions in Ravenna. The city is home to churches with stunning mosaics that added an extra dimension to our holiday.
