FAQs about hotels in Trento

History, Dolomites, Vineyards and Castles

Trento is a town defined by its closeness to the Dolomites, bordered by the vineyards along the banks of the Adige River, and signposted by castles that once defended the road leading towards the Alpine passes of Brenner and Reschen. Though that gives some hints, it doesn’t unveil the rich mix of Alpine, Germanic and Mediterranean cultures that represent the cornerstone of its identity.

It is believed that it was founded as ‘Trent’ by Gauls in the 4th century BC, becoming ‘Tridentum’ under Roman rule. After the fall of the empire and centuries of dispute, the region knew prosperity under the rule of several Prince-Bishops, and was later integrated to the Austrian South Tyrol, until its final incorporation to the Kingdom of Italy after World War I. It boasts nowadays one of the highest qualities of life in Italy, while the University of Trento ranks among the country’s best.

The city’s historic centre shows the typical cultural pattern that characterises the area. Buonconsiglio Castle overlooks the city from the top of a rock, while the cathedral and Piazza Duomo shouldn’t be missed. In the Old Town's narrow streets you’ll find some of the most picturesque hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in Trento.

Well, we visited the city in the middle of the summer, so it might not be a typical summer location on the beach as the city is in mountains, but it is good opportunity to chill down from the summer heats. I have stayed in the city 4 times so far, in different seasons of the year and it is always beautiful experience. The landscape of the city is mesmerizing, with ice caps on the surrounding mountains in spring, a lot of green and flowers in summer and colorful falls. The city offers different opportunities to explore Italian gastronomy with a touch of Austrian dishes, like "speck" - which is mixture between Italian proscitto crudo and German schwarzwaelder ham, "schüttelbrot" - or pane crocante / crispy anise flavored bread, "strudel" - but with honey and nuts, local pizzas featuring mountain food with speck and mushrooms, prunes, cheeses; local cookies, snacks, crackers and deserts with herbs and spices, etc. The city has an awesome landscape. There is a cable car to one of the peaks which surround the city, and the views are absolutely amazing. There is plenty of nice walks around the city and natural wonders. Aside of cliffs and peaks, there is also the gorge of Trento - Orrido di Ponte Alto. There is a lot of museums, including museum of science for which they recommend to reserve 2 hours, but we spent there almost 6 hours.

Trento is a delicous small town in the middle of a charming Alp valley. My wife and I where there for visiting the MUSE (Natural Science Museum) but the best parts of Trento are probably its downtown (rich in historical buildings and interesting POI) and its valley (great for walking, trekking and so on). Hang out downtown in the evening and night, you will not be disappointed by Trento "movida" and its large set of nice bars, cafeterias, restaurants and so on.

Trento has a compact elegant old city centre which is easy to walk around. There are plenty of sights to see and no shortage of places to eat and drink. The Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Castle Buonsigilio are just a few of the ones not to be missed.

Trento is a little gem in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains. It’s quiet and not overrun with tourists. The main piazza is dominated by the mediaeval cathedral and not far away is the Castello di Buonconsiglio. Most of the historical centre is pedestrian friendly. Love it.

Just wow! This place is truly outstanding in their offer, the best guest experience I've had in Italy so far. The whole place is very comfy, inviting and nice to stay. The owners go absolutely above and beyond with helping the guests feel at home and answering any questions you may have. The Trentino App was a very nice bonus too! Also the breakfast was truly outstanding. Highly recommend staying here!
