The places I needed and wanted to go to were all within -20 minutes from each other. The area is nice and walkable, some family marts and Lawsons on the way if you need to stop for a quick snack or need to pick something last minute. Chatan is an ideal location for people visiting family...
Chatan is an ideal location for people visiting family members in the military. It's very close to most of the bases, and has a wide selection of hotels. There is public transportation, but It's very walkable (in most areas). We felt very safe walking around. The America Village there has lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Aircraft from base were rather noisy. If you are from Europe you need a permit to drive, and to rent a car. Taxis are expensive. Buses run from and to the airport. Traffic is heavy. Local Buses run, roughly once an hour but not after 7 pm, and not very often and may run late. Whale watching is a must as is scuba and snorkelling. Sun is intense so wear sunscreen.
